Japanese cars are more fuel efficient and cheaper 2 maintain in the long run thereby costing less and giving more value for money .

Japanese are known for their stringent quality control and designs.

When the Insurance is high one tends 2 look for an old reliable car which means less maintenance. Jap cars score on this as well.

due to popularity and high sales they also have alternative spares which make repairs cheaper.

Guess thats why the resale value of Jap cars is higher !

Detailed discussion here .

These comments are probably appropriate for the Middle East but inaccurate in a North American context.

Firstly cars sold historically by the big-3 (the American manufacturers) outnumber the cars sold by the Japs. Therefore in terms of spares availability including generics, you are probably going to be far better off with the American cars, and at a cheaper price too. The depreciation of the US dollar in the past year, has also made car and spare imports from there cheaper, and dealers are able to either pass this on, or offer other promotions.

As far as the reliability argument goes, my personal experience has been that reliability isn’t really an issue with most of the frontline manufacturers – whether Japanese or American – as long as you perform scheduled maintenance and don’t do anything stupid with your car. In terms of customer service though, I find that the dealers selling Japanese cars in Canada tend to take their market for granted, which invariably results in a less than perfect customer service, both in terms of sales and service.

First of all let me thank to creator & organisers of wonderful & informative canadian desi site.

Now on topic:

How models compare in range say Toyota corolla ? ( american cars vs japanese cars ) (any specific examples on price, fuel economy, maintainance, intial cost etc. )

Also can anybody give some figures of how car insurance cost differs for equivalent models of american & japanese cars

Thanks in advance.

I have a 2000 Hyundai accent and never had a complaint on it so far. I am not great about car and what I wanted was a car which is good on gas, reliable, less on insurance and easy to maintain. I think I got the car I wanted.

Choosing a car is relevent to :

1 - Price range
2 - Usage of the vehicle
3 - How long would you like to keep the car
4 - How many occupants do you have
5 - Would you be putting high km's

In a lot of cases the Japanese have proven to be a smarter choice .... quality is by far better then the north americans .... durability wise the Japanese again are far ahead of the north american ones ...... resale value is far better in the Japanese .....

If you are looking for a short term ... e.g. 3 or 4 years .... please do consider leasing ..... once you get yourself informed on the lease .. how does a lease work and the advantages ..... you'll like it.

The Myth of maintaining a car ..... well ..... the cost of maintainence is better on Japanese cars ..... statistically north american cars break down far more .....

I work in this industry .... so I get to see a lot of facts and figures.

The only good thing about Ford or Chrysler or GM is .... these cars are a lot better for insurance sake .....

send me a personnel message if you need any detailed help !!!!
