hello all,
a basic question for a safe car.
is a rear wheel drive car better than a front wheel drive car for driving in the snow? also is the quality of a north american made japanese/german brand car as good as a japanese/german made car?

Front wheel drive is better in snow. Rear wheel drive cars are generally high performance and I think are better handling. Porsches,BMWs are all rear wheel I think (except SUVs). But this applies if you are really an enthusiast.
American vs Japanese cars - you will find plenty of threads on this. IMO, if its a new car and you plan to keep it for less than 5 years buy American and save yourself the money. All cars nowadays will give trouble free performance for 5 years or so. The money you save buying American can be put to use in repairs if you need them.
Buying an older car - perhaps it'd be safer to go with Japanese, espcially if you're looking at something quite old - say over 100,000 kms.
Hope this helps...
