Last time i travelled by the bus it broke down and the passengers had to get out and push the bus. Just kidding.
The bus stops in front of customs/immigration. You stand in a queue, wait your turn, approach the immigration officer when it is your turn, give them your passport, they check the visa/passport, ask you where you are going and how long and then you scan your baggage and go back with your baggage to the bus.
Greyhound offers 'companion fare'. You buy one ticket the other travel free. It is good if two of you are going. You are free to travel anywhere in the US. Just be truthful or you will be turned back if they find you suspicious. The Visa does not gurantee you an entry a 100%. You will be turned back only if they really find you will not return back to Canada.
Have a safe trip.

pratickm thats true, but at this time of the year the bus is cheaper
the difference is just about a 100 bucks, so im still thinking to go by air

So where do you want to go exactly?
If the NY area, then it is faster and cheaper to drive or fly.
If anywhere else, you can sometimes drive to Buffalo, park your car there and fly to your desination from Buffalo rather than flying from Toronto airport.
Parking at Buffalo airport is pretty cheap, compared to Toronto airport.
You can park there for a week and it's not expensive.

I have a question, if i said i was going to goto ohio, but i actually went to CA would they ask me at the immigration checkpoint?
Why do you have to say that?
If you have a tourist visa (B-1/B-2), then you can go anywhere in the US - immigration officials don't care.
Just tell them where you are going and how you plan to stay and they won't say anything.

Hi everybody ..!!
I am in same situation as Toronto_puttar
I am planning to travel to USA by Greyhound bus ...
I am going to Hartford, CT so the bus fare for round trip will coast me $ 200. And if I go by air , it coasts me 500$ two way trip.
I tried to find some cheaper rate to fly but I could not get it.
Anybody have idea to find out cheaper rate for air route..?
Thanks in advance..!!

OMG - where are you getting those rates from?
I just checked US Air - you can fly from BUF to Hartford is about $143 USD return trip !

Say you spend about $25 on gas driving from Toronto to Buffalo.
Spend another $35 for 1 week parking.

You are still looking at less than $200 for your entire trip !

And the entire run will take you less than 3 hrs.

Of course, the flight prices depend on the dates - if you are trying to fly on Christmas eve then yes, it will be a different ball game.
But I still think you can do better than spend 18 hrs. on an uncomfortable bus driving thru the night :o

Have you already checked the usual ones like Travelocity, CheapTickets, Orbitz, Expedia, Hotwire, etc?

What is the best price you have been able to find?
