How legitimate is this thing? I am sure we're infringing the copyrights, etc. That brings me to another question. All these Bollywood DVD's we find in the Indian grocery stores - are these legit or 'camera prints'?

Daks

A few torrent sites have been shut down by MPAA like lokitorrent.com and suprnova.org.

I am not sure if MPAA is going to bother about something from Bollywood.

I believe these are those websites who generate revenue by collecting money from the downloaders. Thats probably why they have been shut down.
There are hundreds of other websites and P2P networks who provide this service "free" for the downloaders, like shareaza, kaaza, edonkey etc.
They work on the basic freedom of sharing principle, just like if you buy a movie and want to share it with your neighbour for free, and vice versa.

No, both the websites were free.. and they never charged anything.. Only reason why they r closed is that they were posting the links to copyright material on their website..

Kazaa is not operating any server.. so they can't be targeted easily as the people who share are located in various parts of the world.

Torrent sites usually ask for donation or ask users to click on ads to generate revenue to pay for server hosting costs. Hosting them free will not make a site legal.

"The Motion Picture Association of America last week said it is planning similar action against operators of servers that direct data for the Direct Connect and eDonkey file-swapping services."

When I tried to access the sites, they asked for a monthly fee for using their site for downloading. And hence I presumed it that way.
Thanks for correcting me, its some information for me :)

Actually this ruling was in 2003, not sure if any new ruling has come after that.

Canada deems P2P downloading legal (not uploads!)

Yeah bollywood torrent websites should not be having a problem with MPAA...its only hollywood thats targeted...
If Indian government doesnt care about this, then why should MPAA care...
Ive been a regular follower of http://www.bwtorrents.com" rel="nofollow">LINK and http://www.desitorrents.com" rel="nofollow">LINK
