Nerdy bhai, thank u,

I have narrowed down to sony, olympus and i do see ur prefernce for canon.

i have seen a sony for 399 - 4.2 megs, 3x optical zoom, the other info that u mentioned will try and sink in this poor head of mine and work on it.

fuji is good too... and cheaper, if all you are looking for is household use...

also, for electronic stuff, ALWAYS check ebay... chances are you will find the exact same thing with warranty brand new selling for 80% of retail price if you are lucky...

Yes.. If you are investing money in a digital camera, then go for a camera that can give you RAW ictures (i.e., uncompressed pictures). JPEG, the current compression technology being used in most cameras is obselete now. Thats one reason why I have decided to give all these cameras a pass. I am waiting for a Camera that will have the JPEG2000/JP2/J2K compression technology. In that, compressed and uncompressed pictures have practically no perceptual difference. Moreover, You may wish to store these pictures in a CD/DVD. So Capture once, make printouts many times. If you want to notice the difference then click on this link below. It gives you an idea of what the main differences are between JPEG and JPEG2000

Olympus Camedia D-580 4.0MP Digital Camera @ future shop

Nerd,
Can you give me some suggestions on this. I don't understand clearly the "Raw" concept.

Furthermore how much do u think the memory card would cost.

Tks

Look for the Optical Zoom (not digital zoom), the better the optical zoom, you can get closer pictures for long distance. i have minolta dimage z1, with 3.2 mega pixel and 10X optical zoom, the best combination. with 3.2 megapixel, you can print a picture of 8"x11" size with losing the quality of the picture. For home use, i do not think we need anything bigger in size than 8"x11". so in my opinion, there is no sense to spend more money for megapixel beyond 3.2 if you do not plan to print any picture beyond 8x11. it is better to have more optical zoom to get closer picture.
