Only myself.

Apologize for diluting the very important inputs given by FH.

Those who are around 23, professionally qualified, interested in studying further (PG, Research) may find this attractive.

HERE, try this calculation, 250,000 (About a quarter of a million people)

On an average of 12,000 DOLLARS that creeps in along with EACH one of them...

Usually your posts are informative and full of information, however this time you got it wrong.

Only the economic immigrants bring money and there were a total of 65,000 applicants that came to Canada. Considering an average family size of 4, that would be around 1.3 billion added to a 1.87 trillion economy.

I am sure even you can see that this money is not "critical" for Canada's economic well being.

On the other hand last year remittances from Canada to third world countries (usually by immigrants) was a total of $ 22 billion and this money is very critical for survival for most of these countries ..... just saying.

New immigrants in Canada face a lot of challenges and there is a problem that needs to be addressed by the Canadian government. However to say that the immigration is encouraged because Canada gains a lot of money is not a correct assessment.

Just another FYI, last year tourists from India and China added close to 700 million to Canada's economy.

May be 12,000 Dollars is considered as fees to escape from chaos and confusion and to live where there is rule of law

Immigrants are a very good source of income to the Canadian Govt..

Not only do they pay the landing fees, they also rent, eat food, have a car, work and thus pay taxes, buy insurance, by Gas etc...

Immigration to Canada is like a MLM. The ones that reached first stand a better chance that the ones that come the next.

Canada has a lot of land, natural resources etc.. to offer to even a billion people. So immigration will be its trump card for many many more years.

Just go with the flow and you will do OK.

The only issue is extreme weather in many parts.

One always has a choice to move to Vancouver/Victoria, BC in a moderate weather (Golf in the winters, anyone?). House prices don't matter anymore as the GTA has already caught up to the Vancouver area - to the most part, and as far as new developments for immigrants are concerned.

GTA is not the end of the world, on the contrary of what many people believe. High Tech and Financial sectors are booming, and a short trip across the border can save you hundreds of dollars in grocery/gas on a weekly basis. Car insurance doesn't bankrupt you, and public transport is efficient and at par with GTA. If you're not able to make it in GTA, then there's always an option in case you may come across a good opportunity to this West Coast.

Not to say, I don't love GTA. I would move there at a drop of a hat if a right opportunity with a good $$$$ comes across to me. I lived there, and nonetheless of the snow and severe winters, it has its positives.

So, your extreme weather aspect doesn't matter much.
