The Cynic
I am totally surprised.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
I once made a mistake, but I was wrong about it.
TWO men were acquitted today of bombing an Air India jumbo jet in 1985 resulting in the deaths of 329 people.
The ruling, by a lone Canadian judge sitting without a jury in Vancouver, marked the collapse of a two-decade- long investigation.
It happened many-many years before 9/11
If this was taken care of seriously then, may be airports in North America would have been more secure than they were when 9/11 happened.
What the hell. 329 people, most of them Indians died, did'nt affect America much.
What did the RCMP do ?
Five years, 10 years, then 15 years passed before the RCMP charged two men suspected in twin bombings that killed 331 people.
Compare this to the time taken to charge you for exceeding speed limit by 5 KMPH.
Air India Flight 182, a Boeing 747, crashed into the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Ireland on June 23, 1985, killing all 329 passengers and crew who had left for Mumbai via Toronto.
Less than an hour earlier, two baggage handlers at Tokyo's Narita airport were killed while loading a suitcase onto another Air India flight that was the intended target of the bomb.
The funny role of Canada's Intelligence outfit:
Canada's intelligence agency, CSIS, may have had a mole involved with the plot to blow up flight 182 -- and may have had prior knowledge of the tragedy that took the lives of 331 people.
It is alleged, they were acting on behalf of CIA, that had an interest in keeping Sikh terrorism alive in India.
Some RCMP officers have speculated that CSIS knew that bombs were to be put on airplanes. One officer has even suggested CSIS did not take steps to stop it because the agency had a mole in the inner circle and wanted to protect its source.
Evidence destroyed:
1988 : An attempt to murder Indo-Canadian Times publisher Tara Singh Hayer. Hayer, who was later assassinated at his Vancouver area home later in 1998, had said he knew who was responsible for the bombings. The Hayer-related charge is later dropped by RCMP.
Hon'ble Judge Josephson took time to criticize CSIS for destroying what could have been key evidence in the case. He called the erasing of hundreds of hours of wiretap conversations involving key suspects "unacceptable negligence."
Some of the tapes were destroyed because a former CSIS agent feared the identity of Sikh informants would be revealed when they were handed over to the RCMP.
Others were erased, possibly without ever being listened to, because the agency routinely destroys such tapes after a specific period of time.
One shudders to think what would have happened to any country if it would to destroy evidence related to heinous crimes like 9/11
What is beyond doubt ?
-That thebaggage that blew up Air India flight was loaded in Vancouver
- That the bomb was made in Canada
- That the bomb was planted here
Of course, we would never know if the two men RCMP charged were really the criminals, but sure enough, there were some and they are out free in Canada somewhere.
Why should'nt we demand the Canada Govt to come clean on this ? Millions of dollars were lost in a failed trial, don't we have a right to public enquiry on the failures of CSIS and RCMP?
WHY??
Reasons for judgment:
