Hi, here is a questions for experts.
when leaving US for a visit, does a canadian citizen working in US with H1 approval notice(form797) need to surrender the I94 on the lower portion of the form to airline agent? someone says that the I94 needs to be surrended upon departure and the person will be given a new one when reentering US. I am quit confused, pls clarify. thanks.
If you are coming back to Canada for short visit less than 30 days you need not surrender your I -94.

hi, monk, thanks. but i am not travelling back to canada, i am going to japan. so do i need to surrender I -94. thanks
Hi eaglefly,
You need to surrender your I-94 and immigration will issue you a new one upon entry back into US.
If you go out of country other than Mexico and Canada you have to surrender your I 94. You need to keep a copy of your I 94 and original 797.
Immigration will issue you with a new I 94. It will cost 6$. Keep some US $ as cash with you.
it will cost $6..where did this come from? i have been and outside US for last 6 years for 20 times or more, it doesnt costs you a penny
also u need to surrender your I-94 no matter what

You have to pay 6$ for I-94 when you get it by a Land POE. When you fly in , it is included in the ticket ..
