We are planning to fly to Canada and move our items through a moving company.
We are on the East coast of U.S.
1] Can anyone provide a list of good moving companies moving from USA to Canada?
2]What is the procedure and required steps that both us and the moving company should be aware at the Canadian Border?.
3] What items can be moved ? Are there any restrictions on the items which cannot be moved? e.g food items like pulses, spices, tea and other dry stuff etc. as well as liquid detergents.
Have been told that these are not allowed. Is that true?
Do we disclose these items or not?
4] Do we have to prepare a list of items which we move with us as well as we move through the moving company? Can someone pls provide example listing?
5] Do we have to be at the border to sign papers when the moving company gets the stuff at the border?
Would appreciate the response.
Just go through the links I have compiled. Hope they are useful..

About Q4 & Q5:
<4] Do we have to prepare a list of items which we move with us as well as we move through the moving company? >
There are two lists you would be preparing. "Goods accompanying " and "Goods to Follow"
Prepare both in duplicate.
<Can someone pls provide example listing?>
Sample list for "Goods to Follow" is on this link:
http://modena.intergate.ca/personal/rajanr/Van_File/List_GTF.html
When you land you take along goods listed in "Goods Accompanying"
Copy of "Goods to follow" will be stamped and handed back to you.
This list you use when you bring in your rest of goods.
So
a. Either moving company enters alongwith you, then the relevant list is "Goods accompanying"
b. Or the goods follow you once you have landed, then you have to clear goods using the stamped "Goods to follow" List.
c. Ofcourse "Goods to Follow" being brought in by moving company cannot precede your landing.
<5] Do we have to be at the border to sign papers when the moving company gets the stuff at the border?>
If you are not there you would have to use customs clearing agents. Unnecessarily $$$$$ down the drain. Clearing goods is a breeze, unless you have other pressing business.
About clarification regarding your personal presence for signing papers etc, you can find out on phone:
"For more information or clarification call Automated Customs Information Service (ACIS). If you are calling from outside Canada, you can access ACIS by calling (204) 983-3500 or (506) 636-5064. Long distance charges will apply. You can access ACIS free of charge within Canada by calling 1-800-461-9999 "

This seems to be a superior process.
Hi Canadiandream,
Do we have to write the list of things in each box and paste the list on the top of the box?
Do the Customs officers open the boxes and tally it with the list?
Thanks.
