After searching for jobs in my field in TO for some time, I am considering a job offer in UAE. The offer sounds good but I was wondering if there is anyone here who is or who moved from UAE.
-My question is how expensive is the cost of living cause the company is oferring me a lump sum amount. I have a son so I am also thinking about the education expense.
-My next question is I would like send some of my personal belongings there. Does anyone here have any experience forwarding items to other countries? if so, I would appreciate if you name some of the companies who do this kind of moving.

Deal With Reality or Reality Will Deal With You
Hi Arman,
UAE is a place where people of various levels live at different standards of living and each considers only if he could be at a slightly higher standard. That's because cost of living in UAE is getting higher each day.
To be able to advise you what kind of salary would be considered as o.k. or good or very good, need to know what sort of standard you are used to and are expecting to achieve. It would also depend on which Emirate you are targeting, Dubai & Abu Dhabi are by far the most expensive.
Below cost levels (for Dubai) may give you an indication of the cost of living:
Two bed room appartment annual rent USD 11,000 - 16,500
Electricity & Water annual cost USD 1,500
Schooling per child USD 1,500 - 7,000
Annual Travel Cost (by public transport if available) USD 1,500
Average annual grocery cost USD 7,000
Ofcourse there is a lot more to living then just the above cost heads & at the same time there are a lot of families which have the combined salaries of husband & wife far below the sum total of the above cost who live and manage and may even say they are happy.
Hope to have given you some basic idea.
Thanks for your response SPV and Faisal.....I am actually considering an offer in Abudhabi. They are making an offer of 15000 DH/month + yearly airfare to canada + telephone and car allowance. Thats it. Of course my wife is also educated here and has canadian experience so she may be able to find something there too. I just wanted to hear from someone living there..thats all. SPV, your info has given me some idea about the place.
So now my next question is does anyone know any company that can forward my belongings to Abudhabi? Since I am not paid any relocation fee, I am trying to find cheaper way to send items whether by air or by ship.
Waiting to hear from someone.......

These are some general questions to all who have worked and lived in Abu dhabi / Dubai and emigrated to Canada.
How do you rate your lifestyle for a similar job in Canada Vs Dubai / Abu dhabi?
Would you go back if offered a better job than you have in Canada ?
What are the + and -ves in middle east as compared to Canada ?
Do you find the hot sunny weather in Dubai / Abu dhabi a factor than the cold winters in Canada ?
Would appreciate some insight.
Regards
