Recently, I went to the Brick store in Brampton to look around for some furniture. Most of the salesman-woman were "desi", but not one of them approached me and asked me if I needed any help. However, I felt that people of "certain skin colour" were given due importance, and were greeted courteously.

Somehow, I felt that the sales guys in that store had a very snobbish attitude. Actually, they need me, more than I need them, as the profit they make from selling things is their bread and butter. Yet, they did not care about losing a potential customer. Well, it is their loss.........

Time to time, I have run across a situation, where I have been neglected by the people of my colour, just because I am not a white or do not possess a Canadian accent. It hurts, when a teenager of "desi" origin, working on a meagre $6.50 per hour salary, makes faces, while hearing an Indian accent.

Has anybody faced a similar situation, or is it just me being extra sensitive about customer service????

Hello, how many IDs do you need???

You're already using AbdulNarayanDsouza and Loser. And in many instances replying to your own threads.

I think I've warned you before not to do this. I'm going to ban this ID and if this continues, start banning IPs.

Meghal,

I am a teenager and I come across many people with Indian accents so I can see where you are coming from. I am sorry you had to go through something like this. Like you said it is their loss!

You are always the better individual at the end of the day :).

i think, to talk about this expereince should not be our priority, as we are struggling to UNITE as desi first, and settle in a new country, we might be lacking this skills on a base where some of us do know that when it's desi customer, he is not going to decide/buy as quick as a other skin cusotmer (because we are not yet settled and we dont' have extra cash to enter the shop and get stuff right away..in my opinion again!), so naturally a salesman would somehow turn toward a potential buyer...to make his ends meet and i think we can afford to ignore this..!

A salesman is supposed to treat ALL customers in the store the same way which is NICELY. Unfortunately some of our fellow desis in this field never get around to learning the concept of CUSTOMER SERVICE.

If I were a salesman, I'd make sure I built a good rapport with the desi customers so that when they ARE able to affod the merchandise, they come back and buy it from me.

The problem is most of them are there to make a quick buck till they find something in their field..........so if i was them i would concentrate more on potential buyers rather than spending time shooting shi* with non potential buyers and I dont care whether he is white or brown or green.

At the end of the day he or she has to put food on the table and building good rapport in the "present tense" would not serve any purpose. I know its wrong but when you look at it from a short term point of view. I am ok with it.
