I dont get it. In Ottawa this morning it was $1.25 per litre. If the hurricane hits NO, why the prices in Canada are going up? Do we get oil from those refineries/platforms? I dont think so. Anyways, the gas stn owners are making a fast buck.

I filled up 1.35 this morning in T.O

The price of a barrel is sitting at $69 something U.S.
SUpply of oil has almost been cut from the gulfcoast so the same BS about less supply and more demand.

That’s a common misconception. Gas station margins have been constant at about 6 – 7 cents a litre. In fact, the higher prices actually result in a decrease in their net income because credit card fees (for customers that swipe cards at the pump) are based on a percentage of the total transaction value. Therefore the higher the price, the higher the transaction fee paid to the credit card company – which goes out of the gas station’s margin.

The people really raking in the moolah are the oil companies.

Why would you do that? Gas prices are typically lower in the evening.

There are gas stattion owners in Quebec who have shut down their pumps rather than pay the oil companies @ 1.24. We are not talking about the end user but the price the gas pumps themselves have to pay.

BTW: I think its a good thing that the prices are headed higher. Probably enough incentive for people to push for alternative energy sources and new inventions. You know the saying 'necessity is the mother of invention'

I would know better than that.........was tied up with a lot of things last night so could not fill up.

I work in st catharines so commuting from toronto uses up a lot of fuel......and besides I have another project i need to wrap up once I am done with my job today at four so dont have time to fill up gas in the evening today.that is why no choice but to fill up and shell out.

Although I fully agree with the saying......for the likes of me its just too much money, considering I have to fill up every other day.

Thats true. I remember the debate with mercury about how we are all responsible for events in the middle east. Its easy to say 'Bush does this and that'...but when it comes to ones own pockets...it turns to 'i want cheaper gas'. Well, Bush is trying to please.

Thats why change will come only when you and I want it and bear the inconvenience. No fast food type fix for all our problems unfortunately.

BTW: I have a gas guzzler for a car AND my house uses oil to heat. Double whammy!
