I am single guy having 8 year experience in high tech electronics industries .
My exp details are -5 year in India and 3 year in Europe.
I have been offered $ 90K CDN per annum salary + extended medical benefit from the company in Ottawa.
I dont know the cost of living in Ottawa/Ontario.
Now the constrains are-
1)I am looking for good ammount of saving, I don't know how much I can save in Ottawa.
(or working in india for lower salary but low cost of life may give me more saving)
2)I know I can get good salary in US but looking to current market condition, I don't think I can get H1B now.
3)I need to get married so whether I should get Job in India(process of arrange marriage will be easier there if I am physically located in india)
4)I am not looking for residency/citizen status in Canada but look forward for USA and then in long run going back to India.
Can any body give me detail Pros and Cons about Ottawa/Canada.
Have a Very Happy New Year to All the guys
I forgot to ask what about weather condition is it worth taking this offer for extreme weather condition?

Normally as per Indian traditions, the bride's family will give a lot of money (dowry and otherwise ) during the marriage which you can use for flight tickets / initial set up / sponsering costs etc...
Hope this helps .
I think its a shame!!!
We are in 2009......living in North America.....and still talking about dowry!

You said that considering US in recession you may not get HI visa, however please do consider that Canada and its economy is totally US dependent and is not free from recession virus.
How deep Canada's overall job cuts go is still unclear because so much depends on the speed of the recovery in the U.S. If Canada loses jobs at the same pace as it did in the early 1990s, we are looking at the net loss of 500,000 additional jobs. If the early 1980s recession proves the template, Canada could lose another 825,000 jobs.
In December alone Canada lost about 71000 full time jobs but after making adjustments for the part time 36000 job created which may or may not remain in near future, the Canadian govet announced Job loss of 34000 for December.
Canada lost over 105000 jobs in last quarter of 2008. In the meantime, as employment markets look set to weaken further, few cities in Canada appear better placed than Ottawa-Gatineau to withstand the economic recession -- if that's what it turns out to be.

Ottawa is for sure a nice place. It's the best place to live in Canada http://list.canadianbusiness.com/rankings/bestplacestolive/2008/prosperity/Default.aspx?sp2=1&d1=a&sc1=6&sub=n1&df=bestcities

I'm assuming that you are really good at what you do. Or else why would a company pay?
I would say don't just look at the $s. 90K might look too yummy. But keep in mind Canadian taxes are considered killer by many. You might consider health benefits as advantages over higher taxes. You might even save on taxes, but consider this: you are single, young and don't wanna settle down in Canada.
No place is good or bad. It's all relative. You just don't decide to move to Agra or elsewhere just because it has good petha or no petha.
Does that job add any values to you? Do you see growth?
Do you think you can get offer from similar company and with similar job profile elsewhere?
10 years from now, do you think you would feel good about this Ottawa move?
Only you can answer.
Regarding Canada, yes I agree, winter is brutal. Jan and Feb are killer. (But hey, we all need warm vacation after job well done )
I've got nothing else to say against this country.
If US economy swings between 100 and 0, Canadian economy swings between 80 and 20. Indian economy swings between 70 and 30.
One final thought, we all have to settle down at some point of time and somewhere and you might find Canada be the just-right place with just right amount of "petha". Good luck.
