Desperate Mumbai bar girls, out of work thanks to Home Minister R R Patil’s controversial ban on dance bars, have found employment in faraway Bihar — as strippers for sleazy netas.
With the state set to go to the polls for the second time this year, politicians have begun to organise strip shows to lure voters, in which entire villages are treated to a night of naked, alcohol-fuelled revelry.
“Many candidates use strip shows to keep voters happy and the morale of party workers high,” said a former intelligence official posted in Bihar, who witnessed one such show during the previous elections.
To lure the all-important sarpanchs, some politicians also rent guesthouses to serve as makeshift brothels.
Sunil S Pandey, a bar dancer co-coordinator, told Mid Day that around 4,000 bar dancers from here have gone to Bihar and UP to become strippers.
Shravan Paswan, who arranges these shows in Bihar and UP, said, “I have around 230 bar dancers. They are so desperate to make money that they are willing to do all kinds of shows. I have personally arranged for 125 dancers from bars in Mumbai, Pune and Dhule for a local political party that organises strip shows to lure voters.”
Paswan added such shows are often organised simultaneously in several districts. They usually begin with girls dancing to hit Bollywood tracks, after which local music is played and the girls begin to strip.
Dancers from Maharashtra dance bars charge no less than Rs 7,000 per show, exclusive of tips.
According to a source in Patna, groups from Ara, Buxar, Gaya or Muzaffarpur charge between Rs 6,000 and Rs 7,000. Kolkata groups are the most popular, charging between Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000.
The cell phones and plans here are horrible. You can compare them to steam engines ( in Canada ) to the electric locomotives ( in India). Here I told some one of a Nokia phone with mp3 player, camera, FM radio, etc. ( all in one phone) and you could see his jaw dropping. Walk into any outlet of Telus or Bell and the sales person does even know that such phones are available. And the Nokia communicator!!! Canadians may continue dreaming.
And yes coverage - my Telus cell does work in my apartment.
As far the New Orleans vs Mumbai debate goes.....
The governments have failed in both places, Mother Nature has showed its fury at both places but what differentiates both is the character of the people. Between all adversities, the people in Mumbai did not resort to looting, plundering and rape. In fact some good people were on the streets distributing food and water.

Aren't the bar girls of the Mumbai very enterprising? Long live the bar girls of mumbai. Are they making more money lap dancing for the netas? I guess they must be thanking the Maharashtra government for this.
Mumbai's loss is Bihar's gain!

\"Apalled\" , \"disgusted\", \"hurt\", and \" insulted\" are some of my feelings when I read these comparison. Has humanity sunk to so low levels that in the face of tragdy, death and destruction, we make capital of it, by making silly comparisons, and make the whole tragedy look so small?
These guys who compare New Orleans to Mumbai - would they do that if one of their loved ones had perished in either of the places? Besides, how can some one do this comparison when lives have been shattered, people have lost their homes, loved ones and have nothing to look forward to?
SHAME ON THESE GUYS. If you think Mumbai did a better job, GO back there, never to return. And for the sake of those who perished (be it Bombay or New Orleans)........please grow up and STOP making these comparisons.
