Wouldnt it be better to know who is online when we are posting?

Because people have this option given by CD management ! And you know people love to exercise whateaver optios are available to them. This includes me as well.
Moreover, if you start seeing the list of people online at any given time, It would cross hundred or more and would need much longer Charcha page.

But , if there is an option, then the CD website should be ready for the "worst"?

The question was why did you take that option, other than it was given?
You know like I bought HONDA for such and such reason when given a choice of HONDA, NISSAN and MAZDA.

My answer was right there. Because people love to exercise options if available. May be it gives people a false sense of being powerful.
Any ways, in my case as my computer remains open every time and if I do not log out of CD (which I generally do not), it would give every one the idea as if I am online all the time while that may not be the case. Hence I chose the option of remaining INVISIBLE.

You are right. It would seem so.
However, the CD management can take this option (being INVISIBLE) away and the site should be logging people off automatically (like other sites do) after an inactivity of say of 15-20 minutes or more and in that case the member would have to log on again in order to post a reply or check any PM.

Thats a good idea. Give a choice of 1/2, 1, 2...<default> to the user.
