Hi Guys,
I have been trying to get a Visa card for some time and I bank with RBC so I tried first with them and they turned down may application saying first that I am not a citizen nor a PR :( . I made another attempt they denied again. Now I have applied to CIBC and eagerly waiting for any response...
Any pointers where I can easily get a Credit card.. I just landed last month so I dont have enough credit history..
Thanks
sandy

You haven't been here even for a month and you've already tried three times?
You need to have patience, man.

No lender will give you an unsecured credit card within such a short period of time.

And there is no point in applying again and again out of frustration - it will only make things worse for you in many ways.

Wait for a couple of months and then try.

As per your post, RBC denied the appln based on the fact that you are neither PR nor Citizen.....does that mean you are on a work permit visa ?

Pl clarify....I work with CIBC...may be I can explain after you have answered that Q.

Other than that, it's catch 22 situation for a newcomer (even if PR). So most of new immigrants opt for secured credit card. Let me know what happens with your appln with CIBC. As far as I guess even that will be declined coz you just don't have credit history. The more time you apply, the bad it is for you. So even if CIBC appln is declined, my sincere advise is don't apply anymore with any other bank, just contact the nearest CIBC br and give them the ref # of the decline letter. Any PB or PBA can help you with secure credit card. If you need any help, let me know.

All the best.

Hi guys,
Thanks for very quick replies. I indeed tried two times with RBC. When they initially declined I called them and they said I can get a secured visa card as u pointed out so I went to the branch where I used to bank and then they denied again saying that they dont count my scholarship as employment income.
So then one of my colleagues suggested that I should try CIBC and I did it. Lets see wat they gonna do now..

Yes Reachash I am on work permit. I have a contract of two and half years and I dont mind if I have to block some money to get a secured card.

That's good to know. Use your card very wisely....wch card did you apply for, Classic or Dividend ? ....IMHO dividend visa card is better as it gives you cash back at the end of the year....Make sure to process your monthly payt 3-4 biz days prior to due date.

Take care
