Hi Guys
We all know what is going on in Paris currently and the reason for it.
What are the chances that similar outbreak might happen in Canada, if not now, some time in future?
Dips
It could happen anywhere. We've seen or heard about the riots primarily by blacks in Los Angeles after the acquitting of the cops involved in the Rodney King beating. A similar thing happened in a small town of Benton Harbor, Michigan involving alleged police brutality against a black person. Similar riots in Cincinnatti by Blacks against police racism and discrimination.
These riots were the outcome of racism and oppression - perceived or otherwise. It happened among people who are US Citizens, leave alone immigrants.
Could it happen in Canada? Sure.
I guess the bigger question is how is the Canadian living environment, society, culture different from France or Europe in general. What can the country do to maintain harmony on a long term? What can employers and communities do to maintain and integrate immigrants? What can we, as immigrants, do to maintain long term harmony? Something to think about, eh?

The immigrants coming into Canada are ‘by and large’ a lot different from those moving into parts of Europe……its far less likely that an educated immigrant will go around smashing cars and burning tires to make his / her point.
With the exception of Caribbeans, I imagine that children of Canadian immigrants are also far less likely to drop out of school at a young age, which is again a contrast from the bunch in Europe.
Riots could break out of course, for any reason, I just don't think it would be caused by immigrants.

I think what Crenshaw meant was that potential Canadian immigrants have to meet minimum eligibility criteria, including education. People falling in these categories are less likely to resort to physical violence.
The African gangs you refer to are probably refugees.
A few comments made here may not have been 'politically correct' but they are true.
Btw, I was living in Cincy the times the riots occurred. The kid whom they shot was running away from the police and had already committed some crimes, albeit minor. What everybody conveniently forgot was that the kid should not have run in the first place.
IMO, police in the States are BY AND LARGE fair; they have a very tough job which is not made easier by groups like the NAACP and ACLU. Anything and everything is branded as rascist. My few encounters with the police, speeding, being pulled up after leaving a bar, were very courteous. They could have easily had me on a DUI but let me go given that I passed a basic sobriety test.
