These days, the officers in the US do show up - because they get the remaining day off after attending the court trial. Also, there is an option of "trial by submitting a statement" - it is not listed on your ticket but call them up to have this option, so that you will not spend additional time and money to travel to the US to attend the court trial. Good luck!

Thanks friends for your responses, my ticket only offers 2 options plead guilty or no guilty with trial , in either cases I have to pay the fines upfront and then trial follows, there is nothing as plea bargain to reduce ticket option, I am thinking of pleading not guilty requesting for a trial and paying my fines, may be i'll try to extend the date of trial when it comes and delay the time on case , hoping as it works sometimes if the officer is not appearing in court on the trial date the case may get discharged on its own

Hi,
I am in the same boat now. Got a ticket in US although no demirit points but worried about insurance cost here in Canada. Can you please share your experience? How you handled it? did you plead guilty? Did it raise insurance cost?

Thanks for sharing.

The Non-Resident Violator Compact (NRVC) is an interstate compact used by 45 states in the USA to process traffic citations across state borders.

Motorists cited for violations in a state that is not a member of the NRVC must post bail before being allowed to proceed.

When a motorist is cited in another member state and chooses not to respond to the ticket (such as not paying it), the other state notifies the driver's home state and the home state will suspend the driver's license until the driver takes care of the matter in the other state.

There are certain offenses where the Non-Resident Violator Compact does not apply. Those offenses are registration, weight limit, and parking. Some states will not take action on offenses like vehicle equipment and vehicle inspection if their driver has ignored an out of state citation of those offenses. Out of state moving violations are the focus of the compact and there will be no differences in focus under the Driver License Agreement.

After paying fines : According to the PennDOT web site: Because each individual’s situation is unique and the restoration requirements vary, you should contact PennDOT’s Customer Call Center at 1-800-932-4600 (in-state) or (717) 412-5300 (out-of-state) to request a Restoration Requirements letter. You should be prepared to provide your ONTARIO Driver’s License number (if known), along with your name and date of birth. The Restoration Requirements letter will be mailed to your address of record and will explain everything you need to do to have your driving privilege restored. The Restoration Requirements letter is provided to you at no cost.

Hi Freddie,
Thanks for the info. Is there a place where I can find if the Canadian insurance companies have access to the US DMV database by which they can increase the premium?

The OP got the ticket just recently. Not being convicted, it will not appear in the DMV or MTO Records till after the event. So, one can drive as if nothing ever happened. A few of the states got fed up and now even put the offender in jail and ask them to post a bond and then leave. That brings in a Lawyer and Bond Company into the picture. Now they are assured the fines regardless what the outcome is, unless the officer does not show up for the court case.

You have already gone through your ticket and you have paid the fines and now want to know if it will appear some place where your Insurance Company can pick the details.

Here is what you will have to do: The Ontario Ministry of Transportation Offices, do provide you with a Driving record for a period of THREE years for a nominal sum of Six dollars or so. Some need it for their jobs, as they are cab drivers or Truckers etc., If you pay and get one, you will be able to spot the details yourself, upon receipt of the same.

And when you do, you can do the honours and enlighten us all.

Will you??!!

Freddie.
