how would you compare salary in US to that in Canada? For. E.g. if I am earning 50K / year in US, how much should I should be getting in Canada so that my take home salary remains same. I hear taxes / other expenses are high in canada.
The results shows that actually I should get a lower salary in Canada than I am getting in USA !!!!
Guys please, those who have immigrated from US to Canada, esp. in IT, can you provide me realistic comparision? It's really important for me to have this information.

I was in US - Iowa before moving to Toronto.
For the same Gross Pay ($$), one has much less "personal disposable income" here in Canada. Income tax is of course higher - how much higher depends on which US state you are residing in.
The real killer is not only the higher inocme tax but the tax levvied on all purchase 8%GST + 7%PST = 15% . Also, there is no housing mortgage deduction (unless you are self-employed and operate a business from home).
This is just a guesstimate. If you are making $50,000 in Chicago (living in suburbs, not downtown), you'd need about $70,000 in Toronto for same lifestyle; of course it also matters whether or not you have family/kids/their age etc.
