I work in IT.
58.5K is very low for a PM in a MidSize or a Large IT Firm. I am guessing it is one if those because typically midsize-large firms ususally use workpermits.
Salary of a Real PM is in the 75 - 100K range.
Now if you are here to save money rent a basement and travel TTC eat outside occasionally and you can live in <1500month easy.
If you want a good life (posh 1BHK apt), driving around, pubs night clubs you will spend most of ur 3K salary..

Thanks cdn_dude, this is really bitter, one is paying for something which one will never get to use or get back. Being on CD is really giving me eye openers on Canada.

It's the same way in the US with Social Security, Medicare, Unemployment Benefits and other "premiums".
To boot, US Social Security works out more expensive than Canadian CPP.
I bet if you were getting a comparable job in the US for 58.5K USD, you would not have been complaining about SS, EI and Medicare.
