Hi
What are the local transportation facilities within Calgary?
Also, are temp. accomodations easily available for new immigrants, and how to go about to land a job (maybe odd job initially) in Calgary?
Is Nov/Dec OK to land in Calgary for the first time?
Kindly let me know.
Thanx

well, I have to agree with mr. bighead since I live in Calgary myself.
Me and my wife moved to Calgary from the US in early 2000 to work in Calgary and subsequently emigrated while living here. There are lots of jobs in the Oil and Gas sector but a few ones in Computers if you have the right qualifications. There are tons of odd jobs available since the city is growing like crazy.
There is a fairly large Desi community here with two temples, restuarants and if you are south-indian a dosa place opened up recently (Yippee!).
The people in this City are nice and friendly even when the temperatures starting dipping under -30C.
But in the end, you can't beat the rocky mountains. They just rock. I have hiked in the mountains for almost 4 summers now and I have just covered only a tiny bit of the rockies. I hope to spend atleast another 10 years or the rest of the my life hiking in the rockies.
Go Flames Go!

Hi all,
I am landing in Calgary on 22nd August.
I intend to search for a computer sales job so if anybody on CD can help me, it would be really great. Also, what are prospects for such a job? I have experience selling Microsoft, Citrix, Corel, Computer Associates, etc. software.
It gets very cold in winter, goes to -30 to -35 degrees centigrade, my friends in Calgary tell me.
yeah things are cheaper in Calgary compared to Toronto, Vancouver.
What about Indian store in Calgary?
Thanks & rgds.

Let's make India a better place !
If things are cheaper in Calgary (or Alberta as a whole), does it also mean that salaries are lower too as compared to Toronto or Vancouver?

Is Alberta only good for certain professions?
How big is the Desi community? Do they have desi associations in Calgary/Edmonton?
