Shankaracharya, I can't Thank you enough for your input.
My wife is Tamil and thus I always go to that temple you told me about very often. Language is a barrier but I know preist there speak english.
For the Oil Lamp how much do they charge and should I just ask for a lamp? I know we always donate $5 for poojas.
And what exactly should I say the pooja I want to get done?
You guys say Saturday, but some preist told me to fast on Sundays, which I find rather confusing?
Thanks a lot...
Well the number is 23000 and u can do it over a period of time but make sure that u fix a regular number and perform that much paath regularly.
After the 23000 count is over do 2300 more and then get a havan performed. I know this sounds longish and costly but Vedic upayas assume that u have a lot of time.

Hi,
I am certain the preist said 18000 Japa Pooja.
I was doing some reading and found that on this site:
http://www.astrojyoti.com/vishnupoojas.htm
I wonder what's the difference between 18000 and the others. Is it necessary for the person whom I am doing this to be present?
Thanks
Response to Bhaumick:
You could small earthern lamps from Srilankan tamil stores. There is one at the intersection of Dundas and Hurantorio. This in on side opposite of Min a Mart and right across the Cheque Cashing Place. You could get oil, and you could also get the cotton wick from there.
When you talk to the priest and give your name, star and Rashi and ask him to do prayer(in tamil it is called archanai) to Sani Bhagavan. You could take the earthern small lamp(We use it in Diwali in India for lighting our houses), ask permission of the priest/official who issues the ticket for the pooja. You could light it and place it across Shani Bhagavan and offer your prayers.
Incidentally this saturday also it is Shani Pradosham. You should definitely go to temple and offer your prayers.

Speech by Thomas Friedman of The New York Times....
"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our
vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the
starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my
children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"
I was under the impression that the temple provides the candle.
Star and Rashi, is it same in Tamil as in North India? I am a Leo (simha).
Just want to have the right info ready when I go there tomorrow. I am going to speak to them in english.
Thanks
