I have personally had good experience of hotels in India & have stayed at 5 & 4 star hotels & resorts in India.

Things here in western countries are totally customer-oriented & customer service seems to be clearly ingrained into even small kids. We do lag behind compared to western countries.

Here since I worked in the retail sector, I found that sometimes customers take things for granted too much & come to return stuff after even 7-8 months. Many customers buy stuff & return it within the return period after their work is done. Which is a misuse of the customer service offered here.

Since many companies are getting their work outsourced to India, there must be some good factors apart from price. With time, customer service should definitely improve.

Rgds.

Why not? You have doctors, engineers, CA's and the best qualified to that.:D

I would not agree to that. One can return if they are not happy with the product or want something else. That is taking customer service one step up. And mind you all this returns cost is anyway built up into the gross margin. retailers here want gross margins as high as 25 % and on some products as much as 45%. This is unheard of in India where our gujjubhais and kucthis work on 1-2% margins. So do not feel too apologetic about it.

True, over a period of time with training, the levels of service shall improve. It is just the begining and the learning curve has always got be climbed. And in Mumbai call centres are now full of engineers:D I know of a couple of engineers working with a call centre of a credit card company. So if that is any indication, service levels should improve. I hope doctors back home do not join the band wagon.:p

I know a doctor in India who's into IT. Runs a big company.

It is good that you have return policies here. Definitely huge margins here. Unlike India where margin is so less & bills mention "Goods once sold shall not be returned". In Gujarati "vechelo maal pachho nahi levay".

If you are not happy with the product or does not work properly, definitely one should return it. But I know of people who have bought the best camcorders since they are going on a vacation & then come back & return it after getting all their memories on tape. :D

I completely agree with you guys ... We should not abuse the system . I think companies like Walmart have already realized that the policies were abused and hence even they were forced to change there flexible return policies ..

It is mostly the white people that I have found who abuse this return policy.

Rajan,
from my experience:
That is b'cos the immigrants (esp. desi's )are either afraid to do this or donot know that it can be done. Since the "Gora's" have been here since customer service was invented, they are used to it.
Just my opinion.
TK
Sidenote : I was told by a walmart employee the same as you had stated. She also said that it is the same white people who bring fake currency. She also said that our black african brothers almost never do this. I wonder what could be the reason.
