JRF you started me on Illaiyaraja !.

He is the greatest modern music composer to emerge out of India. He is God's gift to music. A guy from a village without any education is now composing Symphony !.

He is a great composer and an excellent musical mathematician. To learn about it you can read the reviews about him by another Guitar great from Chennai Mr.Guitar Prasanna. Guitar Prasanna has rated the top Illaiyaraja songs and he has also mentioned about the usage of the counter point by Illaiyaraja. Illaiyaraja has himself mentioned that it is Gods gift that music flows from him and an external power gives these wonderful thoughts to him. I had the opportunity of living in the next road to him in T.Nagar in 2002 to 2003. He was in lots of debt then, and now he has come out of it due to his second son Yuvan Shankar Raja.

There is nobody in the world other than John Williams of Star Wars/Jaws/ET who can equal Illaiyaraja in composing BGM. He can write the notations for a whole movie within 3 hours and he writes while looking at the screen of the movie projection. He also does not correct his notations. He is one of the youngest Indians to pass the Trinity college of music course in London, ARR did it later.The greatness of ARR is in his contribution to Indian music is crispness, clarity and high tech recording of music.

If people want to hear to his great musical scores then can hear to Guru- Malayalam movie or Lajja a hindi movie of Raj Kumar Santoshi. In early 1980's as Chennai did not have the multi track recording studios Illaiyaraja used to record his music in Bombay. He used to use the orchestra of R.D.Burman, and it is a noted fact that when ever he used to give notations for the R.D.Burman orchestra to play, they used to stand up and give him a standing ovation as it was so difficult to play unlike the regular hindi film songs. In Hindi film music, I consider R.D.Burman to be a trend setter and his contribution was the incorporation of latin/arabic drum beats and rhythm. The other trend setters I consider are Madan Mohan, Rajesh Roshan and Shankar-Eashan-Loy in the current days.But Illaiyaraja is a way ahead of the above mentioned people. Even today there is nobody who can reproduce his melodies the person who tries to be the closest is Vidya Sagar.

Illaiyaraja is a very difficult person to deal with as he has his ego and moods. He goes for his morning walk in a park in Mylapore and he can be met there for his autograph.

In regards to Vadivelu, I learn he charges Rs.2.5 Lakhs for a 8 hour call sheet. He is working around 300 days a year, with many days with 2 shifts. This will give us an idea about the money he is making. The movie I liked him the most was in Thevar Magan. But I'm afraid he is going the Suruli Rajan way!

Raja theatre is now replaced by thedre complex and few other buildings.
Cinema theatre business is not doing so well out there.... Good (new) theatres like Sippy and Maris are in the losing side of their battle to survive.

Ramakrishna, Prabhat and Gaity or the other theatres on your way to Palakarai(my home before).

Michael Icecream continues to remain as a Giant in Trichy with many branches opened around Trichy but still remain with the same look and style, business with their Teppakkulam branch.

Anything you wanna know about Trichy, Please do not hesitate to ask me..........
To me Trichy is my heaven on earth... and its part of my soul...

Trichy was also considered to be the citadel for intellectual development what with so many colleges and schools minus Bharathidasan university.People from Tanjore and Salem had no option but to go to Trichy for higher education.Yes, as somebody had commented Trichy has always been considered as the paradise of the retired souls.
