This is the same dilemma that many CDs have had, but I was hoping to take a slightly different angle...

I am landing beginning June in Montreal. My plan is to take a hotel (yet to be decided) for a week or so and then find a sublet for 2-3 months.

The reason I don't want to get an apartment right away is that I'd like to wait until I have a job and then locate myself closer to my workplace.

Regarding sublets...I was thinking of using craigslist to find a place.

Does this sound like a feasible idea? Suggestions would be very welcome!

Again, I'm moving to Montreal, if that matters.

Good idea if you are successful to land a job within 7 days of landing (or even 2-3 months in most cases). Not much different than other here except you will spend a lot more in those initial 7 days in a hotel / day else you couls manage a whole months rent for the same amount.

Not a bad idea, but it does not offer any advantage over the conventional system of finding a rental place...in most some cases there are no direct contact numbers of the advertisers and makes it all the more difficult to contact them.

All the best with your moving anyways and do keep us posted on your progress and success after you land.

Thanks for the reply.

I certainly don't expect to find a job in 7 days :)

That's why I want a sublet for 2-3 months before I move again to someplace permanent.

You talked about not going for a hotel initially, and saving that money. I don't see any other option - when I initially arrive?

Any more ideas, thoughts... ?

http://www.ubpayingguest.com/canada_accommodation.html

I found the rates of this service very reasonable for the initial week to one month. Never tried the service though...
