Here is what they expect you to show. So, be prepared to have the funds available in one such form. : How much money should you bring?
It is a good idea to research how much it costs to live in the place where you plan to settle in Canada.
Bring as much money as you can to make moving and finding a home in Canada easier. Note, however, that Canadian customs regulations require you to declare if you are bringing more than C$10,000 into Canada. If you do not tell them, you may be fined or put in prison. These funds could be in the form of:
cash
documents that show property or capital payable to you (such as stocks, bonds, debentures, treasury bills, etc.) or
documents that guarantee payment of a set amount of money, which are payable to you (such as bankers’ drafts, cheques, travellers’ cheques or money orders).
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
THEY ONLY ASK FOR DOCUMENTS That show the above. No need to sell them immediately, before you leave.
Bring in your Proof Of Funds in the above mentioned form. Since you also have the Forex Card, bring that also. While you are in front of the Immigration Officer ask him if they will accept the Forex Card. If he says YES, then you have it straight from the horse's mouth. If he says NO, then you can always produce the regular form of proof they asked. So, they will let you in. Use it if it is doable here. If not carry it back.
People who rent places want a Cheque or Cash from you. You are staying with your friends, so, you have no problems there. Also, see if you can get cash from any machine with it and see how much you can draw per day? If you can, then, it is working here.
Also ask the issuing card people where all it can be used. And specifically in Canada. If they say YES, try it out for yourself and tell US too.
So you have it from me. ( You also know that we are not the authority and cannot interpret or over ride their requirements) We want see you get into Canada very safely and without any hassles.

Pst.. Don't tell anyone about it. I won't either. Go ahead, but make sure that they are not home made ones. The newer ones here are plain plastic, if you did not know about it yet. So, beware!!!
Here is a small suggestion, you can take it or leave it. Make a deal with your Bank Manager there. Instead of carrying a whole wad of them, get a few on person with which you are comfortable with and the balance can be in the form of a Demand Draft. So, tell the Bank Manager that you will open an NRE account and deposit it there. Out of that, get the draft that you will need. (Don't tell him where you got the dollars from) after returning you will deposit the draft back into the same NRE account and with draw a few dollars each day till the account gets to its original balance. You choose the low balance number and see if he okays it. If he does agree to it, then, you are A.O.K.
Does it help you. If not here is the disadvantage of carrying a bundle. There are too many check points that you will have to go through. If the Airport security sees a few big bulges in your garments, they will suspect you and search you. In some places they will take you into a special room and strip you too. No music to go with it. Then might hold you in there indefinitely and in some places they will throw away the key. What happens next???
You don't want to know. I will give you a clue... they use rubber gloves....
I don't want you to go through all of these bitter experiences. So, make it easy for yourself and enjoy the trip and return back safely. Carry some good memories.

Hi FH
Thanks for suggestion, ok i think i explained incorrectly my query on cash, I do not plan to carry a wad of cash. Dont have them, but just small cash to cover few days expense for two. And just wanted to know that few cash can i buy from friend rather then bank or forex agency, friend cant give a bill, bank and agency can.
Do we have to produce bill for canadian dollar purchased in india and carried along?
Thanks
