Hi

I will be coming for Landing with my wife in next month, I want to know if buying a medical Insurance(Travel Insurance) from India before arriving in Vancouver in better or after Landing buying Insurance locally from Vancouver is better.
Is buying insurance from Vancouver more expensive then buying from India?

Please let me know,

Thanks

Tarin Shaikh

All of us know that Rupees from India are not accepted anywhere else. Hence, we do all of the conversions etc., within India and into a currency that is accepted all over the world.

Since you are migrating into Canada, it will be good to get them into Canadian Dollars before you start on your travels. Also if you have a Bank there in India that also has a branch in Surrey,B.C., then, getting a draft that is written in your favour, cashed at that location becomes simple and easy. Drafts are safe as it is in your name.

You can carry what ever you are comfortable with in the form of cash. A few in Canadian Dollar Travellers' Cheques and you will need an ID to go with it to use.

There are other modes,(Vehicles) such as stock certificates, bonds, etc., are also accepted, that are a lot more complicated and time consuming if you need cold hard cash in a hurry and the value of it will be at the mercy of the markets.

Indian Credit Cards and Debit cards might also work, please discuss these matters with the issuing Credit Card Companies and also inform them where all you will be using them and your travel itinerary if they need that information.

What ever you do, please declare all of the monies that you will have on you at arrival, to the CBSA agent at the Canadian Customs and Immigration in Canada.

Rents for a 1BR could be from 750/800 per month. Food on an average $10/day and TWO can live as cheap as one and people in love can live on fresh air. Mmmmm.. Use your imagination after landing. Other sundries are as and when needed.

See if you can find a nice Guest House for a day or two and then find a suitable accommodation after that. But do it before you land here. That is planning. Do you have any friends or relatives near by, here in Canada?

FH.

You can buy the Travel Insurance from a local agent here, even before you start your travel, from India, and it becomes easy for you to get a claim settled if that agent is close and near by. This information is for your guidance.

'Follow me' is one such plan and Drugs plus enhanced is a basic one. See if it suits you. The cost may be based on an annual premia with monthly payment scheme. See if it meets your needs. Also there are others. Search and see.

Only a part of it, i.e. Newton. Surrey is in-fact a big city and comprises of many neighborhoods that are demographically mixed, e.g. Panorama, Boundary, Cloverdale, Fraser Heights, Guidford, Chimney Heights, Richardson Ridge, Sullivan Heights/Station, Tynehead, Clayton, South Surrey, etc.

Yes, Newton is mini Punjab, but the buck stops there itself.

Yes. You can do that. Complete all of the papers before you leave the Immigration section, when you land.

Current Processing times are : http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm-card.asp

Make sure that you have his home address and the POSTAL CODE to go with it before you start on your trip into Canada. Also have his Phone number for yourself.
