Excellent Post Shankaracharya. You've shard soem very good points...

Dowry and luxury marriage party on debt... It is a social menace..
I am hopeful, the current trend would some how restrain this.. But you know the Western Culture (Planted Culture in west which is not really western, but some big cosmetics, financial people devised it.) is invading home.. Drugs, Early Pregnancy, STDs.

I enjoy reading Indian History and History of my state (TN) too.. I am amazed to know the details about

1. "Kudavolai" - election sceme implemented 1500 years back.
2. "Kallanai" Dam built 1500 years ago..
3. Navigation skills of Chola, who managed to invade (I got to call that way) Malaisiya, Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand.... BTW Thai curries mostly taste like Curries made in Coastal Tamil Nadu..
4. Architecural supremacy.. Tanjore temple..

I still feel in terms architecture, Northern India was far advanced compared to the whole world.. eg., Somanathapuram temple with hanging Lingam without any strings ( I can explain if some one is interested to know about it)..
Impeccable architecture of Several temples in and around Orissa..

When Gori and Gajini invaded India, part from Gold and other valuables they looted, more than all they were literally shocked to see architecture of beautiful temples.. the next thing they did..they took all the architect and then built the city "Samarkand"..

Madhan and Sujatha are my favorite writers now.. I am really looking to take look at some of Jayakanthan's material.. Hope you had a chance..

Good to share interesting things..

- JRF..

I totally agree with it, and may I add, wife is also supposed to cook and clean the house.

You are so verrry correct!!!

You should definitely feel ashamed. You are not able to do what is expected of you as a man. If it was for a temporary period, it is understandable - but even then you should never have made your wife pay for house expenses. It is really shameful act that has been carrying on for so long now - such act would equate to what in Hindi is called as act of 'Napunsak' (I do not know your Tamil culture, otherwise I would have quoted something from there.)

Yes, unfortunately I had once experienced such a situation when I left my job on my own without another one in my hand. However, still I never asked my wife or my parents in law (since I did not have my own parents) for any money. First I used my savings (though my wife was earning too - I did not touch her savings - neither did I touch her - since I was not providing what she expected from me, how could I ask her to provide me what I wanted from her!!!), later I started stealing from different sources. And I could not live with the burden of being underemployed (I was doing some odd jobs like you), so I decided to commit suicide. And can you imagine what - the day I brought a lot of sleeping pills (I wanted to die in peace), I got a wonderful job offer paying me USD90k! tax free!

It takes a mature man to be able to handle such situations in a manly way. All other advise given on this thread earlier is only theoratical - I could have also said the same thing. But you asked me to be mature, so I am being that and brave enough too.

If I were you, I would sell off the car, and return the money to my wife and start commuting by bus, or walk. Be a man yaar! Don't be a black spot on your culture!

Hi TK,

My thoughts on this are

Quote
"In our culture (Tamil), I was born and brought up with the fact that men are the sole bread winners of the family and wife is to only raise kids."

A man is supposed to bring home the bacon. In any species the females are attracted to the strongest among the males. For any species its only the fittest that survive and a fitter male is the one who goes out and hunts either an animal for food or in modern times brings home enough money to feed his mate (wife) and brood. Evolution has played a major role in our behaviour and it is for this reason that women are attracted to a muscular tanned young male and they get repulsed by flabby males who have white and pink skin tones.

In todays materialistic world women crave for presents and other comforts too. I know a couple of Canadian women who got seperated because they were earning more money than their husbands. Both of them did not have kids and they did manage to find a boyfriend within a month. One is living in with her current boyfriend and the other lady keeps changing her partners frequently because she believes in the more the merrier.

A traditional Indian woman might not resort to such drastic measures but she may nag her husband endlessy and make life miserable for him. The poor guy will loose all his confidence and suffer from depression.

You have mentioned in one of your posts that you wake up late on the weekends and hence don't shower or brush your teeth. Since you have such a wonderful family why don't you spend more time on the weekends with your daughter instead of roaming around and searching for free food? I am sure your wife will appreciate it more and consider you as a doting father.

Regards,

Nikhil

LOL!

Chandresh...I love it!!! That is really creative. You certainly got into the character. I cannot decide which made me laugh more...not touching the wife part or selling the car and walking/black spot on culture part :p

I think TK should add another 10k/year to his cdn govt compensation amount because it has placed him in a position of such abject shamefullness.

I think Chandreshs post needs to be made into a sticky :D . Again, good one LOL

Nikhil,

I am sure you are not aware of this public information, but TK's wife just delivered a baby girl in India and is expected to join them soon in canada. So he is a bachelor of a sort for the time being. :D
