Meghal,
You are saying only what you have experienced. Unfortunately the reality is very different. You are talking of a very stable 9-5 job, which everyone is not fortunate enough to get. Very few are blessed with what you have. You are lucky. My congratulations. At the same time, your arrogance speaks for itself.
For once I agree with TK. India is very different and nothing is wrong in what TK writes.

So who picks the garbage here. AFAIK, all the offices have a contract with cleaning services who does the services.

And afterall, it won't hurt to have a little civic sense and maintain tidiness and cleanliness at your workplace

So from where did the word "Chamcha originate??

In Canada we have unlimited coffee at any part of day. You can pour as much cream as you want

Is it any different here? Ultimately, it depends upon your boss. It hardly matters whether you are in Canada or overseas

Same here.
Canada: You know my life in Canada. It is exactly opposite to the points mentioned in India.
Iceberg,
Excellent response.
Though Meghal was not arrogant when he/she suggested that i look for another job. I do agree on that. I looked high and low for the first 3 years that i was here but for 1 year now i have been too busy with work to look for a job. I wake up at 8:00 am, leave the house at 8:30 am and come back at 9:00 to 9:30 pm , 7 days a week. And mind it , i am in a professional job which many of my clan did not get. Think of the plight of people in factories, Tim etc.. In Tim's a person working there has to clean toilets in shifts. And when i worked in a factory, i had to sweep my work place. In one factory, the wash room was more filthy than a Indian railway washroom.
I am not complaining. I am only highlighting the Canadian workplace.
In a office that i knew , a software engineer hired was asked to do his duties in the reception table and also work as a receptionist. That individual refused.
Things are not heaven here. Personally i have seen many highly placed individuals (incl. IT people) afraid of the boss. In india , who is afraid of the boss. Can anyone lay you off?
I remember my dad (a professional) getting into a fight with the driver for a legitimate cause. My dad tried hard to change him to another job but he failed.
Just my view points and feeling.
TK

Apart from all the above, I would add:
A lot of respect in your workplace. I love India too but I still have few working years and I donot think I can work in India. I get total independence in my work. My boss listens to my views. He/She doesnot say, I am the boss, do as I say.
I also do what I like. I donot have to do certain things even though donot like but for the fear of what others will say.

Hi TK Saab,
I appreciate the fact that it was your concern for a prospective immigrant that made you post your experience in this particular discussion. Thank you for that. .
Since I am in India, I just wanted to let you know that the MNCs in India function much in the same way (not exactly though, thank God ! ) as I've read from some previous posts.
India is supposed to be shining, booming, whatever. But the kind of job security that has been mentioned, along with (the hint of) the idea that a person is expected to do nothing beyond his job only, is home by 5 pm, has time for family in the weekends --- all these things, I have rarely seen here, unless you count the working style of the government employees.
I may be wrong--- but most of my friends and relatives work in MNCs here, so I can only state what I've seen where their lives are concerned.
Along with India's growth, it seems to me, most work places are also adopting some of the (disliked part of the) work culture in the west.
I appreciate the fact that a lot of canadian desis have spoken about the negative sides of Canadian life just so that prospective immigrants do not go through the anguish and hardships that they have been through.
I feel it is my turn to do the same for those who would like to return to India --- Most of India is warm (I'm not speaking about the climate) and "Bindaas", has a very chilled out approach to life and is fantastic in myriad ways. But this country is changing very fast (not only positively) and I am concerned that when many of you return for good from Canada, you may find that India has not remained the same as when you left it.
