Somebody mentioned about the traffic. Yes, we do take it for granted in Canada. I am going to write about my experience on my 2004 visit to India.
Me, my husband and husband's uncle were travelling on Banglor's new wetern style highways. You drive at 80 to 100 kms an hour on these. Western style road dividers, barriers from communities to highway like on 401. I was sitting in the back admiring highways and how it seems like you are in wetrn world and then suddenly I saw a huge truck in opposite direction coming on straight towards our car. I screamed and his uncle said yes, I am watching and he changed the lane. was he not paying attention, it would have taken 2 minutes for all of us to be dead.
Apparently, the other side of the highway was (where the truck should be travelling) is busy witht he trucks paying their octori for enetring in Banglore so this trucker did not want to wait so he just decided he was going to travel on the other side for some time till he can change to his correct side.
With regards to working in Canada, I can really apply the principle of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.
The first need is a physical one and is realised by the fact that you actually have a job that fulfills your most basic economic needs.
The second is the need for safety and security at work. Work policies, guidelines and laws are there to ensure we all have a safe environment in which to work. Whether it be physical or emotional. We feel comfortable and at peace (not freezing our butts off in winter, not fainting in the heat in summer, comfortable work spaces using ergonomics, health regulations, etc.) And emotionally (not putting up with bullies or sexual/verbal abuse or threats at work, etc.). Counselling offered to those who need it. Time off during bereavement without question.
The third need of social belonging is met through acceptance from colleagues, group membership, having an association with a successful team - this is how you build your social circle. There are many ways work can provide this, through teams days, corporate days and competitions, support groups, special days being celebrated like birthdays and anniversaries. Little things like this make working life pleasant and also help to alleviate stress.
The third need brings about the realisation of the fourth need which is to have self esteem. With the responsibilities of important work projects being given to you and when your intelligence is being recognised you can't help but feel good about yourself. Work offers educational services like online courses, subsidised fees on courses through recognised institutions, and continuous development and encouragement to better yourself.
All this and more is offered in our working environments and it's all for us to take advantage of. This is what I like about working and living in Canada. Not to mention an increase in salary (if your lucky!) after reviews

Joe Volpe for liberal leadership race? Never heard that before.
IMHO, there is no such thing as "nomination for future PM". The probable contenders for liberal party leadership election, which is in november are Michael Ignatieff, Bob Rae, Gerard Kennedy, and Scott Brison.![]()

I was on another thread and it reminded me of a facility in Canada that my family LOVE to use
The Public Library System. Its a goldmine of books and every borough has/or shares a library. In montreal each person can borrow upto 10 books at a time on the card. Books range from fiction, self-improvement to gardening, finance etc. Almost everything one can imagine. Its all free(funded by taxpayers for the mst part).
My family loves books and we devote a lot of time to reading so we are really thankful for this awesome resource.
