Hi,
I'm planning to appear for PMI Certification.
Could you please suggest the best book to start with ?
I see many books including Q&A, Flashcards etc.., but I like start with a comprehensive study material then move to such things...

If any of you have got the PMP Cert book and like to sell, Please let me know.
And if the book is scribble free ( I can't read a material without scribbling :D )...

I tried to enroll the PMP Cert Yahoo group...Damn lots of spam..ads.. Huh..

Thanks,
JRF.

Hi,

Anyone aspiring to be PMP, I suggest to become PMI member first. After becoming PMI member, then appear for PMP. Benefits are multi-fold such as - 1. Reduced fees 2. Free PMBOK 3rd (downloadable from net as well as CD form) 3. exposure to Study groups or mentor programs, which makes studies very organized and focussed.

JRF, List of reference books is available with me, in case you want it, let me know. I dont have the ref books though.

Regards.

Pal,

Thanks a bunch for your valuable comments.
While I am looking to enroll with PMI, could you please forward me the list of reference books. It will be helpful after reviewing PMBOK CD.

How do one enroll for PMI?

Secondly, can i get the list of reference books as well?

Currently, how much scope do we have for PMP certifications in the Canadian job market?

To become a member of PMI all you do if go their website (www.pmi.org) and join by paying the fees.

As regards scope of PMP's, there's an increasing emphasis on PMP's especially in the IT fields.

I have been involved with PMI since 1999 and stayed a member for 3 years then this year again I have taken up the membership.

PMI southern ontario chapter is pretty active in organizing monthly seminars etc and one can benefit from the various topics.

As for recognition on PMPs .... yes, it is growing in demand, but how strong is the demand ? depends on whom you speak to.

The aspirants think ( as i used to ) that it is the next big thing and it would be a major boost to the career , and in many cases it is ...but the fact remains that many PMPs remain unsatisfied and keep desparately looking for opportunities at the PMI networking events.

Getting PMP certification is one thing , maintianing it annually is another. It can cost you a chunk of change in getting the required PDUs every year.

Having said that, I'd highly recommend reading and undertanding the PMBOK (project management body of knowledge) .... it helped me a lot in transitioning into my current field of work..

on more deeper thoughts, PMBOK also gives some crucial life lessons ....the defination of project perfectly fits our life as well

"A project is a temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product or service."
A project is temporary and unique ...and so is our life .

Good luck with your PMP test preparation.
