Dear CDs

I have been a menber of this site since 7-8 months, but have hardly posted any comments.I genrally visit the site at least 2 to 3 times in a week. The reason being that i am an desi waiting for the immigration...

I AM SICK and Tired to see that people fighting on ""GOOD CANADA" BAD INDIA": Culture:SEX ...... and so on.....

Every topic ends with this note.

Will it be helpful to the immigrants ?????? Do not know. But at the same time pl do not start again on this topic.:)

I think the site has lot of positive things but some CD members always take a tangent towards the -ive aspects.:(

THIS SITE WAS BETTER WHEN I BECAME AN MEMBER.......

REGARDS

SUNDBX

I agree. Even I'm getting sick and tired of this.

You've pointed out a problem, but I'd also like to hear your suggestions. For instance, WHY was the site better when you joined? What did you like at that time that's missing now?

I invite comments from all members. And please note that I'll delete any posts here that make it a India vs. Canada thread.

Please don't post on this thread unless you have some suggestions...

Here are a few things I've seen happening in the recent past -

Members post without searhing the 'Charcha' section, so we have the same questions being asked in a hundred ways. Reminds me of what someone said yesterday (May 5th) in one of the posts - Here we go around the mulberry bush.....:D

There's a lot of mud-slinging happening on the site, if someone makes a suggestion/comment (reflecting their own views), other are readying to pounce. Agreed the comments may not be right, but those are the posters views

Members are using the Charcha section to post personal message, things like - Oh sent you a PM, please check or send me your email id or # and I'll respond to you.

Members are making a lot of assumptions (and we all know what 'assumption' means) which is probably not a good thing

Almost every other post is beaten to death. People tend to go off on tangents without realizing what the intent of the original post was

People respond to post that are months old, it's almost like bringing a dead person out of it's grave. A lot of the times the original poster has got the reply they're looking for. It almost seems like some threads just need to be locked once the objective is achieved

With due respect to the mods who're doing an excellent job, it sometimes make me feel that your tolerance levels are really high (not a bad thing) but some members are exploiting that. I'm not suggesting to lower the tolerance level across the board, but it may make sense to give an early warning to members, once you see that they're starting to cross limits. (Again I'm assuming that it's not happening and if it is it's probably not working). I've seen sites where they have almost a zero tolerance limit - which again is a bad thing. Just to give an example what happened on that site - someone posted an issue they were facing, another member suggested some solutions. I posted saying that I'm having a similar problem and that I had already tried that solution, guess what - my post was deleted for threadcrapping - reason being I'm not contributing to the original post. I felt that was an extreme case of tolerance limits.

My 2 pennies.....

EDIT: Replaced My 2 cents with My 2 pennies - due to IP issues :D

Another thing I notice that a lot of people are invoking my screen name............. From now on anybody who does that will have to pay me a royalty.:D

Can we make that official too? ;)

I have only 2 cents to contribute, not a cent more, not a cent less ;-)

Dear BlueLobster

The time i joined site it was informative & lot of CD used to give suggestions. The answers were short but informative.I do agree that their is a job associated problems in Canada but every problem has a solution and we should only talk about the solutions. That will be a positive start for the person who is asking for information.
The start of mentor club is a good start in this direction .Also the internal job vaccancy does the same thing.

You are doing an good job and i appericate that .

tahks & regards

Thanks guys.

SS,
Thanks for your detailed post.

Threadcrapping is definately a problem on Canadiandesi, and I agree we need to reduce tolerance on this. Although I still wouldn't delete your post in the example you mentioned from the other site, I agree that's an extreme.

Another big issue is non-crapping (for lack of a better term) members who'll go lengths to engage the crappers. I don't get this part and this makes matters works.

Anyways, some very good points. I'll wait for some more input, my idea is to consolidate input with some ideas I have and make some changes.

TK,
I've removed your post. This thread is about suggestions to improve the charcha section, not a rant on the status quo. Secondly, try to bullet your points, don't write such absurdly long unreadable posts please..

Sundbx,
Point noted about threads straying off topic. To a certain extent, this is uncontrollable, but yes, the focus should be more on solutions.

I think DT has come up with a fantastic initiative on the mentor club. I hear you loud and clear that we need more initiatives like this.
