How about adding a ratings for each thread? Like "Very Useful", "Useful", "Useless", "Timepass", "Scrap" etc?
We can also create FAQs as discssed, where we create FAQs as suggested and publish any of the existing as well as new threads to those FAQs. Some amount of coding is involved.
For people replying very old threads - what should we do? Though the date stamp is there, there are very few people look at it.
May be while replying to the old thread - it can comeup with a "redline" message that you are replying to the thread that is "3 years and 6 days old". Will this help?
Thanks for positive suggestions.

A Proud Indian Canadian
The critical issues for any new immigrant to Canada is
1. Having a place to stay for the initial period
2. Getting a decent job in a related field is very crucial.
One can search for accommodation in the classifieds section but searching for a job can be frustrating and time consuming. This is more so in the regulated professions like engineering, medicine to name a few. Companies prefer hiring engineers having a P.Eng license because it becomes easier in the hiring process but not all engineers need to have a P. Eng license. As an example it would be beneficial if links like this http://www.peo.on.ca/ are highlighted so that potential immigrants can apply before landing here. This would save time and effort because preparing a technical report for each of job experience an individual has is time consuming and has to be written in a manner to convince that the engineering experience that an individual has is adequate.
Are links to workopolis, monster or the national job banks are easily accessible in CD? I am not sure if this might work with everyone but before moving to Canada to gauge employer’s interest in my work experience and also to develop a network, I had applied for job listings by e-mail without mentioning my contact address or phone number.
Having a “Timepass Section” is advisable where people can post and debate on all unwanted subjects. The one good thing about CD is its highly addictive; you can’t stay away from it.

BL and Others :
I am against the Timepass section. By the very nature of the section, people will use it just to take pot shots at each other and may never even care to visit the other sections of the site .
My suggestions would be :
The current site is fine. Only thing is that it should be moderated in a strict way. People can discuss any topic provided that it is useful to potential immigrants (+ ve or - ve). People who try to take tangents/ insult other people should be warned and their posts made void. This will bring some order into the forum.

I am a Gents and not a Ladies.
from what has been happening recently on the forum, i have noticed that the "tangent" problem is actually created by the more "senior" desis.... the ones who have been active here for quite some time, and who do have a lot to offer....
at times i am really amazed at how these "experienced" minds can stray so much !!!
for the past few days, i have been even wondering about the age of people on the site...
i think just a request to the "oh so active" members here for self moderation will eliminate a majority of the problem that triggered this very thread.
the ideas about FAQs, having more stickies (we really do need a lot of them...), and even having some "experts" from various professions to "guide" people are all very good ideas.

I want the cultures of all the lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible.
But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any.
Hi all,
How about limiting the no# of posts a person can post on the forum in a day? say to about 10 a day. That way ppl will be more carefull as to how they use their quota and not indulge in useless banter.
just a thought.
