I solicit advises from desis for purchasing a used car .My budget is $10000/12000. I need to drive 125 KM daily for a year now, and for city drive at least 4 years later. I would be grateful if the answers cover the model/year/dealer/others.

You can go to a Car Dealer & look for thier Used Car section. Off lease car are good value for Money. You can try Airport Kia on Derry & Airport for good selection of Car. May be you can get a 2003-2004 car with your Budget.

Raju,
I suggest a japanese car for the long KMS that you will use.
I also suggest a private buy since you will save money on Tax and no one will fleece you.
If you have time, go through the Toronto star classified. Looks for a old gora lady driven car and get a good deal from them. Ask why they are selling the car. it must always be for buying a new car only reason. Once you see the family, you will know if they are telling the truth. Never buy from people other than Gora (not even european) since old lady gora's maintain thecar well and offer almost always low price. I know many car driving school owners bying cars from them. One guy bought a 2000 toyota corolla in 2004 from an old gora lady for $10K. She told 12K and he asked for 10K. After 3 months (yes, 3 months)- with phone calls every week, she gave it to him.
If you donot have time to do this, walk into a dealer and buy the car. You will be paying $1500-$2500 extra (tax and his profit) for a $12,000 car . So see if that is worth buying from a dealer.

My bro bought 1990 model V6 Camry from a desi guy. He paid 2.2K
His friends said he paid too much for 16 yrs old car.
But, car runs excellent. I've tried it .. smooth at 120KmPH. Michelin tire, 1 year old battery and just two rust spots.
So I do not consider this as desi or gora guy issue.
Please do not be taken away by bad replies.
I think you should get the car looked into by a trusted mechanic. Spending 100-200 for that checkup will pay you long time.
