I am uanble to burm DVD/CD for last few days

I have Sony DVD+RW DW ( Model-D56A)
I am using Record Now! software/program to burn DVD/CD

Everything was fine till last week, now its not possible

I tried many many different DVD/CD ( all blank & new one)

When I am giving command to burn , I get this message
"There was proble writing to disk, you can try again by clicking Retry. you will need another blank disk"

When I am checking details, I get this message :

Recording error
Recording errors often occur when the media contains dirt, fingerprints, or scratches.

If you are getting recording errors:

Try using a new disc.
Try using a different manufacturer's disc.
Ensure the disc is clean before recording:
Remove all fingerprints, dirt, and dust from the shiny side of your disc using a nonabrasive cloth with a mild, nonabrasive soap solution.
Wipe the disc from the center to the edge.
Dry the disc completely.

any help is appreciated!

Hello mumdxbcan
First of all you can try downloading the latest firmware of drive. Then you can check if the disk you are using is compatible with the drive. you can also try reinstall the drive from device manager.
I personally don’t like Sonic software.

Thanks Yanksingh & Viggy

First I didn't find any latest firmware for this DVD drive on internet

I can reinstall from device manager, but i should have DVD driver CD, correct?
Let me check

Yes I have enough space in my PC( say 40% is FREE space)

I'm having a similar problem too. This time I got Philips DVD-R discs. On my DL burner, it just refuses to write, (same error message as OP) where as on my single layer burner they work fine. Both are installed on the same desktop.

I'm using single layer discs and have used similar discs on the DL burner previously, just that they were a different brand.

Since I have 2 burners, I didn't bother 'researching' to find out the cause.

But it is strange....

hi mumdxbcan,
i guess you are using XP (Home or Pro), you should be able to reinstall the drive without driver bcoz ur OS already has driver for it. but if you have driver for your drive tht is awesome. like i said before i don't like Sonic software. you can try windows built-in burning software. check if that works. just try with a small file first. if possible try different brand disk.

Here is updates on same

I can play CD/DVD form CD/DVD drive
I can even burn CD
But its not allowing to burn DVD only

May be some settings problem
When I am putting blank DVD, symbol on DVD drice changes to CD drive

Is that mean drive is recognising DVD
But then how come I can play DVD in same drive

Something is wrong
May be as yanksingh say I can reinstall driver
Are u sure no need of any driver CD to reinstall CD/DVD driver

Can u tell me what exactly what I have to do
Also yes I am using windows XP

Thanks
