Hello Folks,
This information is specifically for international students in Canada.
I found out today that international students in Canada can drive without holding a valid Canadian driver's licence or an International driver's licence. You have to make sure that you fit with the following conditions:
1. You are registered as a full time student at your institution. (Although I was advised that international students registered at some selected institutions only can use this priviledge. So better find out by talking to the licence issuing organization, whether your institution is in the list or not.)
2. While driving, you carry a valid Indian driving licence & your student ID card.
3. Your Indian driving licence is atleast 2 years old. Which means that you should have driven in India for atleast 2 years on that same driver's licence, before coming here to Canada.
And thats it, you can drive now! But for heaven's sake guys, please don't jump into the car seats like it's a land rush, do get some practice by joining a driving school or even by asking someone to coach you a little by driving with him/her. The rules and etiquettes of Canadian driving are very different.
Happy and safe driving!
Cheers
