First of all , is it by TTC or by Car?
If it is by TTC then please read below, otherwise please ignore :
Half hour or 1 1/2 hours in commute is the same. You travel in a conditioned space.
What matters is waiting time for the transit and how far is your home from the transit stop and how many transits you have change in between.

For eg. if i work near kipling subway and my house is near keneddy subway, i donot have to worry in winter months since my exposure to nature is minimal.
OTOH, If i work near St. Clair and Keele and live at Scarlet and jane, then i am in soup during winter months (though the commute time is less than 20 mins, i have to change atleast 2 or 3 buses and the actual time spent may be more than an hour).

How can it be same. ? Adding one more hour to commute means one hour of less sleep and reaching home one hour late. So instead of doing useful thing around home or just relaxing, you are stuck into the gridlock.

For me, even extra half hour of sleep in the morning is a much cherished affair

10 min by walking or driving?

It's a 10 min drive by car but I can do it in less time in the morning. As you have rightly mentioned a short commute is a boon in winter time and I also come home during lunch hour. ;)

But then did you have "Doorsopen" in which you see get to see many famous buildings interior (like city hall, legislative building, TD tower-by mies van der rohe etc...) free of charge for 2 days?
Toronto also has many free activites in the summer (on thewaterfront) like the Jazz festival etc...
I guess it is lucky to be in Toronto for some reasons and for some people.
