Israeli attack kills 7 CanucksVacationing family caught in retaliatory strike over Hezbollah rocket barrage

'My family is decimated'
Deaths darken summit hopes
BEIRUT, Lebanon -- Seven Canadians, including several members of the same Montreal family, were killed in an Israeli air strike in southern Lebanon yesterday.
As Hezbollah and Israel traded rocket and missile barrages for a sixth day today, the Canadian government stepped up plans to evacuate as many as 40,000 Canadians stranded in the war-torn region.
Foreign affairs confirmed the seven deaths and said three other Canadians were injured in the attack, but declined to provide names or hometowns of the victims, citing privacy laws.
Media reports out of Montreal indicated that six family members -- an elderly man, his nephew's wife and her four young children -- were killed while vacationing in the village of Aitaroun, about 50 km south of Beirut.
The warfare showed no sign of easing. Israeli missiles struck the port of Beirut early today and a large fire broke out, witnesses said.
8 SOLDIERS KILLED
After Hezbollah rockets struck deep inside Israel, killing eight people in the northern city of Haifa yesterday, Israel retaliated with waves of missiles from Lebanon's north to south and into the Bekaa Valley near Syria.
Early today, an Israeli rocket blew up a Lebanese army position, killing eight soldiers, in the fishing village of Abdeh in northernmost Lebanon.
And in the southern port of Tyre, a sea-launched Israeli missile tore off the top of a 12-storey building, killing at least nine.
Waves of missiles hit Tripoli, Lebanon's second largest city and a major northern port and Hezbollah strongholds in eastern town of Baalbek.
Barrages from gunboats killed four in a village south of Beirut.
The southern port city, Sidon, also came under renewed attack.
The toll on both sides rose to above 200.
Israel had warned of massive retaliation after the Haifa attack, and accused Iran and Syria of providing the weaponry used in it.
Israeli military officials said four of the missiles were the Iranian-made Fajr-3, with a 35-km range and 90-kilo payload, and far more advanced than the Katyusha rockets the guerrillas had rained on northern Israel earlier.
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert vowed "far-reaching consequences" for the Haifa attack, Hezbollah's deadliest strike ever on Israel.
The morning barrage of 20 rockets came after Israeli warplanes unleashed their heaviest strikes yet on Beirut, flattening apartment buildings and blowing up a power station to cut electricity to swaths of the capital.
Even before the latest Israeli retaliation, Israeli airstrikes had devastated southern Beirut, a teeming Shiite district that is home to Hezbollah's main headquarters.
Some residents of Beirut's southern Shiite neighbourhood, Dahiyah, ventured out of shelters to collect belongings from their shattered city blocks, where buildings were collapsed on their sides, missing top floors or reduced to pancaked concrete.
Many emerged from their destroyed apartments with bulging shopping bags or suitcases as young Hezbollah gunmen urged them to leave quickly.
Large swaths of Beirut were covered with dust, and the city of 1.5 million people was emptying as residents fled. Furniture pieces, blankets, mattresses, clothes and toys were scattered on the streets.
The Israeli military warned residents of south Lebanon to flee, promising heavy retaliation after the Haifa assault.
"Nothing will deter us," Olmert said.
Syria warned yesterday that any aggression against it "will be met with a firm and direct response."

Its 'all-out' war according to the Hezbollah monkey. Civilians die in war.
Inspite of the victim/pity card played(and it will be played with vigor by apologists and terrorist sympathizers...as if only the civilians on one side are dying), I hope Israel gets rid of the Hezbollah scum.
I hope the Canadians are evacuated so we can prevent more Canadian deaths. I also hope our jihadis flock over for the help of their 'bretherin' so we can get all the monkeys lined up in the same place...much like in Afghanistan

Unfortunately, as with most terrorists, Hezbollah locates in civilian areas because they know democracies are skittish about shooting at someone surrounded by human shields.
Canada, thankfully, has come down on the correct side, supporting Israel's right to exist and denouncing the terrorist groups as such.
