Can anyone of our esteemed members suggest from their experience what are the alternative jobs/courses opportunities available to Family Physicians in canada with scope of reasonably good income .
Do you mean something related to medical field that pays over $80,000 a year?

My friend's wife is a doctor from India who had practised in India and Abu Dhabi for about 15 years before migrating to Canada. After looking at various alternatives for more than a year, (and let me tell you both husband and wife are very studius, do a lot of research for courses and careers etc.etc.) she decided to do full time 2 year MBA from Schulik (York University).
She finished her course last May but till today she has not got any job - employers feel that a doctor will remain a doctor and will be difficult for her to \"manage\" commercial organisation.
She is now once again thinking of spending another 3-4 years to re-qualify as a doctor here in Canada.
Now that might be just an isolated case - but knowing that couple, I know I would rarely find any one else who might have done so much research and effort (the husband has 6 professional degrees in the field of finance and IT - 4 of which are North American).
And so neither it is easy to find alternatives for a doctor and perhaps not advisable too. Doctors should stick to their profession in this country where initial hard work will be rewarded with fantastic dividends.

Dear raj and chandresh bhai ,
Thanx for your reply. Does anybody has information about prospects in medical research field or MBA in healthcare or hospital management. I would be grateful if somebody could tell his experience in these fields. Thanxs once again.
Hi,
I have couple of friends who are from the same background like doctors by profession. They are here for last 2-3 years. They have been doing jobs on part time/full time basis in call centres or security companies. They completed some courses which qualify them to be at par with the doctors in USA/Canada. There is one institute here in downtown Toronto by the name KAPLAN. They prepare you for those courses. Its called USEMLI (I don't know how they spell it but thats the way they pronounce) After doing those courses, you can apply for residency in USA/Canada and you may be absorbed in some private/general hospital. Its very hard work and tough study for about two years but it pays very very well. The way they managed it like husband used to work full time and wife, who is a doctor, used to study full time. Now she has completed the courses and is looking forward for residency in USA in coming March. Also she was working part time in call centre and sometimes in security. In security job, you get lot of free time to study.
I can ask them for more information, if you wish.
