Dear CDs,
I had applied for PR in Oct 2003. Am still in Delhi.
Received first communication this year in June, for PCC e.t.c. may take another 6 months for visa, I guess.
Was curious to know from people who landed in Canada as PRs if any worthwhile changes did come their way (other than physically re-locating).
I mean how has global economic slow down affected Canadia immigrants?
Are their jobs available up to your satisfaction?
Has the cost of living deviated?
What is the income band for a Canadian to be called middle income group (Middle Class)?
Apart from the above and most importantly seeking practical thoughts is for the fact that having toiled hard to rise the corporate ladder in last 20 years,
If at all - what income band INR people should not think of migrating?
a) family income of 15K - 25K per month
b) family income of 25K - 35K per month
c) family income of 35K - 45K per month
d) family income of 45K - 55K per month
e) family income of 55K - 65K per month
f) family income of 65K > per month
Honest thoughts welcomed please.
regards,

f) family income of 100K after tax > per month assuming that your skill set is recognized in Canada.
c) family income of < = 35K - 45K after tax per month assuming that you have to start afresh.
Other than that there is a huge culture change you have to get used to. Money is only 50% of the battle.
If you provide more information on your and your spouse's (if applicable) work experience we may be able to help

hi!
Canada has grown quite a bit during these 5 years. Before 5 years, all you got ws labour jobs but now slowly many are getting their profession jobs (at starting level) as their first job (after 1 or 2 months).. Having said that , India has grown up so much that is quite foolish to even think of coming to India. When I say that, i am saying it for a lot of professions.
For e.g If you are in Delhi and are earning about Rs. 50000 or more and you have your own house, It would be stupid of you to come here at all. In other areas Rs. 35,000 (Family income)+ own house.
Also it depends on what life do you want here? Are you here to educate your kids for free? are you here for clean, fresh air? Are you coming here to use free library, parks etc...? if for the ablve said reasons, please do come.
Lots of jobs available here are IT jobs, Engg. Jobs, Hard labour jobs, Truck driving jobs, Customer service jobs, Sales jobs etcc.
Jobs can start at $10 an hour and average is $12 a hour for the starting level jobs such as Customer service, Sales job. It can go as high as $20-$30 an hour for professional jobs such as IT, Engg. Jobs. You do tha math by deducting around 20% tax + 13% Tax for all the manufactured products that you buy and $1050 for a 2 bed apartment.
Hope this helps
Peace

Hi,
If your family income is above Rs.50,000 a month and above, you own a home in India pls don't migrate anywhere in the world. I was reading a article on times of India where they said that 30,000 to 40,000 expats have returned to India last year. Another report of World bank estimates India's economy's can be 5 times (quintuple) more by 2050.

Hope this helps........................Jona
The only reason you should move from India is if you are suffering some persecution like Religous or Ethnic, etc or are way down in the socio-economic chain.

I do not agree completely:
Say you are in Mumbai, Family income before tax 17Lakhs. After tax u get 1 Lakh take home.
A very average 2 bedroom flat (not townhomes/semis/detached that desis usually buy here) will cost 70-80 lakh in a average suburb in Mumbai. OK for argument lets not buy in Mumbai or Bangalore lets buy in Hyderabad for 50 Lakhs. I am not sure if u get homes with 0 down but say u put 5% down your monthly payment is: 60000
Car: i dont want you to buy a Camry or Civic which most desis will buy here but somewhat smaller, but not as small as 800 or santro. That will set you back 12000/month
Add other expenses and you can easily spend 20k of the remaining 28K.
So u save 8K.
As discussed in previous thread given that income you should atleast save 25K so if u do that u have only 3K for other expenses which is really not enough.
And this is assuming u get 1Lkah after tax... u can do the math if u make less or more..
having said this, to lead this lifestyle here u need to make 90-120K ehre depending on the city you live in... so if ur job is in demand u can do it without a lot of trouble if not then its better to stay in india..
