Everyone will show pictures of High raise building in Toronto proudly but no one will show you people sleeping on back of bus stop WHY? You can find beggars looking for TTC tickets or money in Toronto streets, myself happens three times why not told by anyone?

Everyone is responsible for their decisions . When we see Bollywood films, how many display the poverty and homeless people? The begging children and the eldery sitting by the road sides? They dont...those that DO..are called "art films".

IT works both ways. IF you know that certain aspects of any society are never put on their tourist brochures, then you ought to be prepared for this when landing in a new country.

There is always 2 sides on a coin , we dont know one part but we know the other soo we shud not jump to conclusions ...
Every country has rich and poor, there is no country which will just say we got only rich people or there is no country which will say we have just poor people ....

Take it Dubai , itsa dream place if people see it in TV , brochures and ads... but when u actually live here u will know what it is .

It has worst living standard compared to India poverty also .... People are discriminated and overworked and low paid .... People sell their houses and come and work here givng lakhs of rupees to recruitment agencies and travel agencies ....

Atleast Canada has a government who helps the poor , have subsidised homes , children benefits , healthcare ..... UAE does not provide any of this people go without food , medical and are treated like dogs ..wud say Dogs are better kept ...

Can you please let me know what city brochure shows people sleeping on the bus and begging on streets?

There are street beggars in New York and Los Angeles as well. You'll find similar stories of struggle (some much worse) in EVERY country in the world. Doesn't make it any easier to digest it, but the fact that this lady still is in Canada while her husband went back should tell your right off the bat that she knows she and her children stand a better chance here than SL.

I'll spare the niceties and say right out that someone has to be really really stupid to think that because no one told them about poverty in a country, it never existed. The previous posters have been super-nice in softening the blow, but the message really is "What planet are you from anyways??".
Do you really need to be told this? How old are you?

When someone migrates, it is to gain relative advantage. But that advantage is a perceived advantage and is not guaranteed by anyone, as this is real life.

Also, in every society people work to achieve what they believe in, but the success does not come to everyone in equal measure, as obviously many factors are involved.

Thus in every society there are good things and bad and life is not perfect at any place on this planet. To assume it would be perfect in Canada is assuming too much, and most immigrants know that there is long struggle ahead when they do migrate. Those who imagine just a rosy future have not done their home-work well. Zaffardar has done good to point an instance out, but getting surprised about it, means he is still young.

Nicely put. But for his own good, the faster he grows up and stops looking around for justifications and sympathy, the better.

I get the impression that he's himself struggling here and disenchanted (unless he's one of those "I have a 90K job, its others I'm concerned about" guy ;) ).

If you're an established immigrant, there's two ways to respond to someone who's complaining this way

1) Buddy, you're doing a great job of analyzing Canada. You're aboslutely right, the Canadian market is unfair, there's racism, the immigration policies are biased and based on pure greed, immigrants are exploited. There's nothing but labor jobs here etc etc. I hate this country...

2) Buddy, wake up! The first thing you need to do is work on your English, its horrible. Its a tough market, but stop pointing fingers and get with the program. Rather than complaining, use whatever resorces are at your disposal and make the best of what you have. Stop focusing on the negative and change your perspective to view what's good. You may struggle initially, but with this approach, you're bound to make it eventually.

With approach 1, basically you're pushing someone into a long term / permanent labor job (and creating a whiner)

With approach 2, you may come across as blunt however you're saying it like it is. I've come to realize that most capable people here do eventually get good jobs, regardless of whether its in their field or not. The ones that struggle are the ones who lack horribly in communication OR keep focusing on negative aspects and have no desire to self-improve (of course I'm speaking of the majority here)

If I were struggling, I'd much rather someone tell me 2 than 1. That's just me however.
