I recently came across a CV of a Indian CA with 25 years of work expirience and 14 years of it after his CA and he makes only 45,000 rupees a Month with Coal India limited.

I thought the salries in India were preety high for Professionals.

Any comments ?

Coal India ltd. is a govt. company. He would only make less than Rs. 45K a month as salary. He may get a bribe of Rs. 1 lakh a month. In govt. company, there is a limit to the salary.
OTOH, I knew so many people with diploma making Rs. 1 lakh a month (In private companies) in 1997 , much much before the IT boom. By Diploma , i mean Diploma in plastic technology,Textile technology etc...
I know other Diploma holders (civil, architectural, mechanical, etc...) and even engineering graduates in civil, metallurgy (from self financing colleges) making Rs. 800 a month.

Are you sure? I used to make 1900 in 1984, which by the end of the year jumped to US$ 1,900!

45 K as a stable govt. salary in India is not a small income.

Add to it the stablity , pensions, benefits, TA , DA, LTC ( vacation travel ) etc along with the benefit of working less in a govt. job

all boils down to a very good life as opposed to a private sector guy who may make more money per month but has to survive in cut throat market and prove his/her mettle each day
