CD's,
Yesterday i had to send some urgent money to India through Wire Transfer.
I was given an exchange rate of Rs. 37.75 by TD Bank. Only when i came home, I felt that i must have been ripped off by the bank b'cos even the money deliverers in mississauga/scarborough would have given me a rate of around Rs.40. EVen though, now the CDn. Dollar has taken a full one cent plunge against the US$ due to the Income trust fiasco, i guess TD's rate was too low.
Can CD's tells me if i was ripped off and how much does the money deliverers of Miss/scar give these days ( It has been a month since i have visited Mississauga money deliverers).
Thanks
TK A
Sidenote : Wire transfer charges by TD bank for sums less than 10K cdn. $ is Cdn. $ 30

How is the money deleivered? By hand? Will it go to Madurai and Erode in Tamil nadu?
Is the process like, I pay in Canada in Cdn. Dollars and It will be delivered to the address in India by cash and hand in about 2 or 3 business days.
IS this the process.

Fido,
Contact local desi's in the temple. There will be a desi who does this Hawala work. Get his delivery details. Some Desi's (though i doubt in Halifax) will accept money in Canada only after the money has been delivered in India.
These desi hawala people can give you around Rs. 40 any day.
All the Big 5 bank rates are the same. May be you might get better rates in ICICI, Citi Bank , SBI.
All the best.

Sidenote : In my situation i could have done it but the recipeient wanted it to be white money through bank transfer. but i have never imagined taht TD rates were this low. All ICICI/SBI in the GTA donot work beyond 5 pm. TD is open until 8:00 pm.
