I was at the local wal-mart during a Friday evening rush hour and heard the announcement on PA system saying that this was our “lucky day” since they were giving away “FREE Carving Knives” On reaching the designated area, I was not surprised to see over a dozen desis eagerly waiting for the guy to hand over knives. Of course, it was a scam, the guy was actually selling the knives and began a story about how the knives could be used for blah blah…
After about 20 minutes he came to the point: he was ‘giving away’ the knives at a discount 1 free if we bought one for $20. Guys got in a queue to buy the stupid knife. No word on the “FREE” giveaway that the Wal-Mart announcer had told us about.
I dont think walmart targets desi's , if thats what you mean. I think its a matter of 'buyer beware'. If something is too good to be true, it probably is !!
In other words, you usually dont get something for nothing. ..

Also, it's not just Wal*Mart.
I have seen demos like this at many other stores.

Are you there?
I think Desiblogger heard the news wrong or he is hiding somethhing or he went late.
The same thing happened in sears. They said that every one will get a free gift at a particular point in the store. I rushed and was the first in the crowd. First he showed is how a plastic round thing would remove the seeds of an apple allowing you to eat the apple seed free and gave one plastic for every one. This thing was also used to take the branch of the tomato, could be inserted into oranges and orange juice could be sqeezed out etc...After that he said that there will be more free gifts and next showed us a carving plastic thing and then a knife which was $20 each and that he was authorised to give one FREE with every Knife purchase. He was rambling on and i left after 20 mins. b'cos it made no sense. So that time i got 2 plastic round thing. Next day when i again went to Sears to see if he was there, he was still there and at that time got 2 more free. So now i have 4 in my home ( I am ready to give 3 of those to Desi's Free, if they can come to my home and can take it. PM me if needed).
A week later i went to Dixie mall sears and found another guy selling some super sucking cloth free. He gave us all a 8 cm X 8 cm cloth free.
So these are all gimmiks. but we do get something free . maynot be what we expected.
The other sears was the Rexdale outlet one.

Sidenote : BV, You are right. I did see some exited people ( and i also acted very eccentrically, leading others to belive that i was a decoy). Also these people were telling the others that their grandma used to own one of those knives and which had been passed on to them and that it still works and cuts fine. Unfortunately i did not have time to see if they were still there for the next session.
