Hello Everyone,
I am from Mumbai as well. I went to NM college in Juhu. I came to Canada 6 yrs ago finished a management degree at UofT ...started working
Nice to see fellow Mumbaikars here.....the city instilled a distinct culture in me that was different from original gujaratis, punjabis and other communities (even though I am originally a gujarati...lol)
I am an accountant/auditor here and would be willing to advice/counsel anyone who needs any advice about pursuing education or career.
Thanks
Maulik

but I couldnt reply back got a postmaster delivery failure. But here is an answer to your question:
Can you give me a bit more detail about your profile? I mean your age and experience? Are you a student or a professional? That might help me more. Are you in Canada or India or USA?
CMA is more of a management designation, I would say an equivalent of cost and works accountant and a bit of company secretary
CPA is the american chartered accountant designation
CA is the Canadian Chartered Accountant designation
There are benefits and setbacks of each desigation. I would suggest you go by what you like to do rather than time/money since each process is extremely rigorous and you would burn out after like an year if you dont like it midway (except the CPA which is a one time 3 hr exam. But I am sure these days American companies ask for an MBA along with a CPA)
CMA will help you get a job in industry (not a public accounting firm). Pay ranges are on their website. I think they start at around 55k after designation and goes till 70 to 80K. New graduate CPAs start with around the same. But, with an MBA they go up to around 100-120K. CAs start with around 70K on graduation and go to around 120-150k with 4-5 yrs experience
Personally, I find CA to be the most rigorous process. If you already have a CA from India, you might get completely exhausted tryin to do CA here cuz its not just the studies, the toughest part is finding a job at a CA training office.
If you are already enrolled in a CPA program, a CMA might add value to your profile since its a management desingation while CPA is an audit designation.
Good advantage of the Canadian CA right now is that you get knowledge of the IFRS since Canada is converting in 2011 while US is converting in 2014. So, if you have a CA from here and go down the states during 2014-15, you will be in great demand there.
Regards,
Maulik
