Sankasht chaturti is the day for keeping fast. You can have a look at any panchang available online. There was one on March 7, 2007. So the next Sankasht chaturti in on April 6, 2007. Search for "Sankashta chaturthi" in google and you will get plenty reading material. Usually you fast the whole day and break the fast only after seeing the moon. You should make a sankalp in mind that you would be doing this vrat until n years or until death. I suppose, there are some rituals for breaking the vrat too. Other knowledgeable persons can help you with that.
I have read that keeping fast on Angarakhi Sankasht chaturthi is equivalent to keeping fast 21 times.
There is a store in brampton for special puja/vidhi items on steels and melani drive intersection plaza behind ambe furniture near torbram and steeles. You can get ganesh arati from that store. dates for ganesh chaturthi in 2007 are april 6, May 5, June 4, July 3, Aug 1, aug 31, sept 29, oct 28, nov 27, dec 26.
Among these angarika choth is the most auspicious. angarika means the chaturthi on tuesday. In these year July 3and Nov 27 are angarika and most auspicious to do. For the calender you can get panchang(Bhaskar PANCHANG) FROM vAISHNAO DEVI TEMPLE, OAKVILLE PH.9058254202 IN WHICH all the tithis are give according to north american time. the monrise time for canadian cities are also given.
so do u knw what exactly to eat and not eat..?where exactly i find this stuff?
can anyone explain this??
How to fast :On this day in the morning after having bath, worship Lord Ganesh by offering 21 Durvas ( akind of grass liked by Ganesh) and red flowers,Ganapati Atharvashirsha is chanted, Naivedyam is offered and Aarti is sung. Then after moon rise, one sights the Moon, offers Naivedyam to the Moon, and only then break the fast by consuming a aprt of the Naivedyam.
Sankashti is an observance composed of five prahars (one prahar is a period of about three hours), four during the day and one at night. According to the ritual, a meal should be taken at moonrise. Thus that meal becomes a part of the ritual and is not partaken of to end the fast. And that concludes how generous Ganesh is.
The meal can be sabudana kichdi / rice balls (modak/kozhukattai) / fruits / sundaal (channa).
