Bhootacharya ji,
Pranaam ! :-)
The above links are only indicative, which may not directly imply to immersion act but similar less severe sanction might happen. This is just to give an outsiders perspective on religious matters which seems so dear to people now days.
Such things, particularly religious practices and gatherings, starts small but grow to level of utter nuisance. Thousands of such examples are there. Yes I am personally not very comfortable on such start-ups and I may be the one who will complain.
Hindus, while are all guns for the idol immersions in Toronto are not so comfortable with recent islamic gatherings. Christians are all against mosque building at 16th avenue, and muslims can kill people over a fabricated reel which they suddenly discovered 18 months after it was made.
My viewpoint : Sans religion, Kids can learn everything good at school, from rule books and from life experience which religion claims to be teaching and they will be spared from passion of christ, mohammed, Ram and Shive sena. Religion frowns a religion, a prophet contradicts a prophet, learnth a kid of today !
I am sure a doctor or even a driving instructor must have shaped and saved more lives than any known prophet ! Still it seems humans value the fairy tales more than the reality.
Good that at least you did not add two "t"s in Bhootacharya..it would be buttacharya..anyhow.
The things that you stated sound amazzing but there are times in every one's life when they look out for strength and that strength, for many, comes from faith.
What you are proposing was already recently tried and failed miserably in Russia....so no matter what, religions are going to stay. Now as per immersion of idol, who knows some day when I own one of the islands I will allow all the ganesh bhakt to celebrate and immerse idol (as long they meet EPA ).
Ganapti Bappa...Morya!
Ganesh Utsav ki sabko bahot bahot shubhkamanaye!
hmm duplicate...
To the OP : With due respect to your faith and holy intentions - I request you to refrain from following this "tradition" of IDOL immersion. It is not really the way you pray to lord Ganesha, but actually a tradition started by Bal Gangadhar Tilak to unite Indians using a religious platform during India's freedom struggle.

Now it has become highly commercialized and political so no one can stop it happening in India, hope we can be more sensible and follow the original way of worship - in our temple or at home (best way- in your heart).
I don't know how our children can learn the values we believe in - from a teacher/scientist who themselves have contradicting values learned from their own religion. I am confident many of the scientists / engineers / doctors / astronauts themselves are religious.
Anyways, to each his own - there should no force/compulsion. Everyone's decision should be entirely voluntary without adversely effecting the society.
My 2 cents -
Hiren
