You have general information that you are seeking for Halifax.N.S., in here.
It is a very nice city to start a new life in Canada.
People are very friendly and helpful and of a different breed there.
A map of the area is provided for reference and search.
The area in the map is serviced well by buses. Do not go outside of the area unless you have done the exploration and suitablility studies.
For the initial start up: The accomodations could be obtained in some of the dorms and hostels. There is support and helpful information available at these locations, such as rentals, local newspapers, job availability etc., mostly in and around for the support of the university staff and students.
Since you are here in Canada and you know the arriving family and their needs I would urge you to do the initial search and investigation and the suitability of accomodation and landing for them there. The telephone numbers are provided in their websites.
It might cost you a few bucks, but it is well worth your time and efforts and you will also get to know the set up there.
There is limo service from the Airport to down town area.
Dartmouth is the Bedroom of Halifax and Halifax is a peninsula. The bedrooms that I have chosen is TWO in my search. It is very hard to find a three bedroom apartment and they are hard to come by. They are booked well in advance by the current residents.
If your cousin has an international driving licence and is confident of driving here in Canada, then, there are rentals that he can use to move about and explore.
August is a great month for festivities and Natal Days.
There are Indian Groceries and Indian Temples there.
For employment, this location is the leanest place in canada next to Newfoundland.

Thanks,
Parag
Hi ParagMehta,
Thanks for asking. I do know the city well and I lived there for a while in my travels. Hence my personal touch. I do have friends there who are still living and working in that area.
Your initial query was of a general nature with scant information to base a proper response. Also I know that you are doing your own inquiries. I was trying to get this matter into the answer side of the column with a decent response, which when some one follows in the future will find it helpful.
Being on the Atlantic Ocean and the gulf stream passing by, in some of the summer months we had FOG for a period of SIXTY days. Even in the winter we had four seasons, these are rarities. This is just information for the files and can be obtained currently through the google search.
Half the younger population moves out after their study. The employment is in the Universities, Army, Mostly Navy and the Banks and the Government. Fisheries have fallen on the wayside. Shipping is the biggest and the best in that neck of the woods. Wood, Pulp and paper and OIL industries have taken a back seat. Coal and Steel which was the back bone of that area has gone into the wood works. Tourism is still good. Newer telemarketing and IT industries have sprung up lately and I have very little knowledge as to their current status.
This information is scanty and is furnished as memories of that area. But it sure is a nicer part of Canada. As nice as any. That is where Canada began and has ROOTS.
History is great when we read and understand and pursue but economics is the order of the day and we are trying to find more resourceful areas to live and settle down. Ontario, Alberta and BC currently stand out.
Good to hear back on the board.
Freddie.
