We have now moved from Halifax to Calgary. The major difference that I see is in the cost of heating. It is almost 70% less than Halifax. Indian groceries are way cheaper in Calgary. Personal taxes and the cost of services in Halifax are among the highest in Canada. Even though we bought a house in Calgary but I can see that the rental market is very similar to Halifax. The median salary range of a new immigrant with professional qualification and no Canadian experience in Halifax area is about 40K~50K. There is hardly any Indian presence in Halifax except students. There are 2~3 Indian restaurants with very poor quality food/customer service/Hygiene. Getting good quality Indian grocery was a struggle. One store sell sweets which he gets from Toronto and will continue to sell unless the sweets are rotten.
Having said that, we miss the beauty, friendliness and innocence of Nova Scotia. May be we will go back to retire but not for work.
