I bought dry val and Rajma from a store, as I am a bit tired of canned vegetables.

I followed the normal procedure for the val, i.e. tied in cloth overnight and soaked in water one day. No sprouts yet...any suggestions. i can assume its different from bombay val as its grown in ontario anyone out there with some advice.

Please soak the wal in luke warm water overnight and the next morning drain the water and then tie them in a cotton, dupatta or any cotton material.
keep it in warm place and take a look after about 6-8 hours u will see the sprouts have come out :)

thanks

Leena

My neighbor from back home, used to soak whole val for 8-10 hours minimum, and then leave them for a few more hours in little water so that they would sprout.

Personally, I soak them (Val, moong, matki, etc.. preferably overnight) for at least 8-10 hours and then drain the water in the morning and place a tight lid over the container. After about a couple of hours, I sprinkle some water over them, and then replace the lid back onto the container. Repeat the sprinkling of water again a couple of times maybe.. This is not necessary, but if done it is great. In the next 12 hours or so they sprout for sure! Plus the water sprinkling in between helps to retain water in them.

From the above there are 2 analogies coming out -- one to keep them air tight after draining and the other to let air pass through them ... tie a cloth on the lid / collander etc .... Are these both correct ?

Here is a list and description of a few of the beans that we normally consume. You can sprout them in many a ways that people are accomplishing it here. As long as they sprout by the process that you follow and when you succeed and cook them, you will get the joy of accomplishing and the pleasure of eating them. This list also gives you the nutritional values to go with it. So, if you are fussy and want to know a little bit more, then you can scroll down to see it too.

I have seen a few of the adamant beans being kept under heavy weights for it to trigger the growth and the sprouting too. So, there are many more ways one can accomplish the feat. Try it the way you know how.

Bon Apetit, After you eat, you are full....... !!
